I think there wont be much issue,atom is as fast as an old p4 in these sort of workloads .Even single core would comfortably do the job. These guys are claming atom (dc of course) faster than p4 2.8 on those workloads! Also i think performance can vary widely with distro used.

ati sticking to 256bit was more due to economies than complexity (and maybe pad limitation),its all about trade-offs. If there is 2x increase in compute performance (and since nv is still looking for ultimate perf),you dont really want to be held back by slow memory.

Good point,The battery life is an issue.Then the flash,these flash are usually the lowest binned flash,so it wont last long with quite a lot of abuse like bittorrent. If someone could build a arm9 board with some storage/network controller (like in WD mybook),it can fetch the same or better...
