I had the same problem with Most Wanted and Carbon while using an X2. If you're also using an X2 you could try setting the process affinity from task manager to use only one of the cores. Or you could just install this instead. AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

If you're playing the World in Conflict Beta with a 2900xt on Vista or XP don't bother updating. The newer drivers just make the game crash for me, was running fine on 7.6

If you repair the boot startup from the Vista dvd your XP installation will be non-bootable. Same thing happened on a friend's system yesterday.

I've never noticed this problem using headphones. Try using CCCP and under FFDShow audio settings change it to 2/0 - stereo.
