Right now your modem is the router. In the modem configuration you can set it to Bridged Mode. Then it will only act as a modem to maintain the ADSL Link. The WRT54GL will perform the PPPoE login and stuff.

Put it in bridged mode for best performance, and to actually make use of its routing capabilities. If you don't bridge it then its nothing but a wireless switch/hub. When its bridged there is no load on the modem for things like number of active connections etc.

Don't bother with USB, half the games don't work and the ones that work are unstable. If you have the earlier Slim versions then you can attach a IDE bay to it. The newer Slims had the IDE solder points completely removed.

The Beetel is only a modem, no WiFi. Are you happy with your current modem? If its stable enough for your purposes, then you can just get a wireless router with good range. Like the WRT54G series with dual antenna. Just connect your existing modem to the router in bridged mode.
