Yes it's difficult considering that you are adding a sata hat. But you could run it without case too. You have to blow dust every 2 weeks or so depending on where you live :)

For a simple NAS setup it's enough. I am running my NAS from a raspberrypi 4 (over 2 years). If you need more compute consider something like a mini pc/thin client running proxmox along with a DAS.

Yes each port in theory should give you a gigabit. I have the 8 port version of this switch and I get ~960 ish Mbps (LAN speedtest not internet)
