1.2l turbo engine in maruti and mahindra

Now a days to cut cost companies are moving to 3 cylinders turbo engine under sub 4 meter.

So can anyone share there opinion on their experience? On paper I know the difference but any practical knowledge?

3xo has 1.2 6 speed tagdi engine low mileage but super powerful Good refined engine .

But brezza is moving to 1.2l turbo engine(rumoured) 3 cylinders and first time maruti 6 speed gear box manual. But will it not be less efficient and less refined coz of 3 cylinders and will the power difference between that huge?.

Take test drives and decide for yourself, I personally don’t like current gen of 3 cyl engines, give abrupt power inconsistent fuel consumption, In my experience if driven sedately Hyundai-Kia 1.2L non turbo is sufficient and cheap.

If we’re predicting, whatever the rumors are Maruti won’t likely put 1.2L turbo in brezza, its current engine behaves like diesels, they’d want to maintain that feel.

Actually the leaks suggest that it will be 1.2l and those rumours are very much likely to be true. It has 6 speed gearbox in the photo , second with Brezza baleno facelife will come too and under sub 4 meter every company is nerfjng the engine. And to cut cost brezza will surely do.

And yes with turbo in lower engine the feel is not good especially in city traffic when car can’t get in turbo range.

Turbo, booster jet all are gonna be close to crap and ruin city drive (if you are a highway driver it’s all a different ball game) but i am supposing you to be a city driver..

About brezza well 1.5L k series will still be maintained if not in petrol then most certainly in Cng, as turbo and cng is a no go..

What I feel is maruti might just give multiple engine options.

1.2L turbo, which will be a noise box and a great vibrator considering the level of damping and quliaty of plastic in brezza.. But it’s a must to maintain the competition and cost cutting.

1.5L k15c, the usual awsosomest one (precisely why I bought mine last year dsspite the rumors of facelift and what not), this will be for cng and may be with smart hybrid in upper variants.

What I can say is that the k series 1.2 and 1.5NA engines of maruti are unmatched, super great to drive and give great mileage and low maintainence.. To be safe its always smart to buy a NA.

About 3xo well the mileage is pathetic just like sonet and venue

My 1L Kia syros turbo gives me an average of 11-12kmpl in the city, 16-18 on the highways

Maybe it will improve after 2nd service.

Turbo lag at low rpms if you have a full load is noticeable

I agree.

The 4 pot K12M on my Ignis is super peppy and also has a nice little growl to it.

Turbo range in Syria is around 1700-3000 in this range you will feel the push but in traffic it’s laggy.

Anyone tried tata turbo?

I have not tried sierra and nexon turbo. Sierra was not available near me for test drive. But any tata user?

I drive the Citroen C3 Aircross with the 1.2 L 3-cylinder turbo pertrol (PureTech 110) and 6-speed torque convertor. It’s a fabulous little engine, with an almost diesel-like low end (it makes max torque at 1750 RPM) making overtakes effortless. Strong overall performance with agreeable city (10ish Km/L) & highway mileage (15-17 Km/L). It’s not a frugal engine per se but it more than makes up for it with its driving characteristics. To compare, I drove my friend’s 2023 Kia Seltos with the 1.5 L 4-cylinder turbo petrol and CVT combo and it just doesn’t have the same effortless feel to it despite having a significant power advantage on paper. I had to wring its neck for overtakes (could be down to the CVT). Citroen has made a lot of compromises to get this car to meet a certain price point; however, the engine and gearbox combo is from a class above. You can get the same combo in the smaller C3 hatchback and that thing is a little bit of a pocket rocket.

I won’t touch TATA cars with a barge pole. Horrific QC issues and whether or not you get a lemon is down to the roll of a die.

4 cylinders > 3 cylinders.

Companies disrupt this beautiful harmony for weight reduction and increase mileage and cost savings.

Compromised long life because 3 of them have to do the work of 4.

But most people replace their cars or don’t drive enough before the engine requires overhaul. So it doesn’t really matter much.

The only 3 cylinder that is done right IMO is from the VW.
