Hi All,
Got a noob question for a 2.5 in 320 GB external hard drive,
How much free space should the disk show initially that is without any files?
(eg 300 GB, 310 GB… how much?)
Asking this cos i’m getting one cheap, so thought of checking the free space
Type: Seagate Free Agent
Mentioned Capacity:- 320GB
Actual Capacity (usable):- 298GB
thanks Spacescreamer,
isnt 298 GB a bit low, almost 6.8% capacity lost
you will get 320X1000X1000X1000= 320000000000 bytes that is 298.02 gb
marketing standard = kilobyte = 1000bytes
computing standard = kilobyte = 1024bytes
thus the size …
max you can do is partition to ntfs compressed format… will save space depending on the data you store on it.
