We played with Abit’s latest greatest Intel motherboard called Fatal1ty AA8XE and managed to get some very impressive scores.
Abit has “Guru” overclocking, a very user friendly Windows based overclocking tool. With a few alterations to voltages we managed to overclock a Pentium 570J CPU from its original 3800MHz to a quite impressive 4200 GHz. We cooled the motherboard with Coolermaster’s aluminium based cooler and we made the board perfectly stable all the time.
We got that speed with 19 x 221 MHz and we could go even a few MHz faster but we kind of like round numbers here at the INQ. Remember AMD is about to launch its 4200+.
We managed to run 3Dmark03 and 3Dmark05 but we haven’t more magnificent scores as it seems that especially 3Dmark05 is not that CPU demanding. I guess we need dual core to boost the scores but not in games as 3.2 is actually slower than 4.2, that’s for sure.
Its a normal OC,nothing great.
As it is the P4 is getting smashed by the A64 everywhere.Also the memory bandwidth that was till now the P4s domain is now AMDs with 9.8 GBps.
The dual core P4 840 struggles against the top members of the A64 in gaming.It is very fast in encoding though.But when A64 goes dual-core on S939 esp. the NF4 SLI/ultra ,I think P4 will be kicked so bad it will find it hard to get up again.
Starting with the Athlon XP,amd has slowly been cutting intel.Death by a thousand cuts?
Well Abit has always been gr8 in ocing…and this Fatal1ty mobo was bound to do good in gaming because behind the development was none other than Jonathan wendel..one of the most successful semi-professional gamers..he was heavily involved wid Abit in the development of the product family which was exclusively meant for the enthusiasts market…he used to be a gamer wid the same name..Fatal1ty..which now seems poised to become a gr8 brand name..
Well, that was until Mr. Fatal1ty got messed up by Mr. RocketBoy !

well, well, well…Chinese market promising to be what it is, may be that match was fixed ! Just having a dig at you Caayote - I’m a very happy owner of an ABIT AV8 mobo - a pretty decent OCer !
And probably not many may know about Oskar Wu-Abit-DFI and the LanParty quadrangle !
Well Fatal1ty or RocketBoy boards apart, when do we have a JediMaster board which will hopefully be specially released in India!!
On a serious note, the Fatal1ty board still looks like it had something special in it, for example the OTES cooling. The rocketboy board looks like any standard 915P board with just a new product tag

Same scenario on the Socket 939 side. Rocketboy has only a Via chipset, while Fatal1ty has the brilliant nForce4 under the hood:

That OTES is intriguing - ABIT seems to have plonked a lot of moolah in more than marketing !
I hope it supports Athlon64 procs. Surfing and overclocking at the same time with sea-water cooling would be cool !!
OTES has been around for a while, seen it on earlier Abit boards as well. Its only their new “Ramflow” cooling system that i’m seeing for the first time! While RAM cooling is usually either through mounting passive RAM sinks or specially designed RAM sinks with small fans on top, this is the first time i’m seeing RAM cooling integrated onto the board!
One of the reasons that people don’t like the heat spreaders is because it narrows down the gap between the sticks and obstructs air flow. Will check what this integrated “Ramflow” cooling is…
