Acer Aspire Revo: The Desktop Disruption lands in India

The Ã¢â‚¬ËœnettopÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Ã¢â‚¬â€œ a mash-up of a netbook and a desktop Ã¢â‚¬â€œ has successfully carved a niche for itself as a desktop replacement. And why not? It offers two things most Indians would love: it takes lesser room (it can actually be hung on the back of your monitor!), and has lesser power requirements

However, there was always the missing feature of not being able to play high-definition video on the nettops, such as the Asus EEE Box. WhatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s the point of having a 20-inch screen if you canÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t take advantage of it, right?
Well, all that has changed with the new Acer Aspire Revo, which can play back full HD 1080p video, thanks to the Nvidia ION chip it is based on.

Running on Windows Vista, the Aspire Revo is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 processor, 2GB of RAM (expandable up to 4GB), a 160GB hard disk (upgradable up to 1TB) and an onboard Nvidia GeForce 9400 GPU.
Apart from an eSATA port to connect another hard disk, for multimedia purposes, the Aspire Revo also offers connectivity for HDMI, VGA and 7.1 channel audio.
Internet users can avail of the built-in Wi-Fi chip to access the Web, or connect via the standard Ethernet port. And of course, thereÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s a ton of USB ports to connect to.
For a price of Rs 22,999, that really isnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t a bad deal. In fact, the Acer Aspire Revo would be ideal for someone who is short of space, likes his multimedia but isnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t terribly into gaming.

why not slap in a bluray player and make it a complete htpc replacement?

Seems an aweful waste of money at these prices and no optical drive though!

Asrock is any day better ~15 k and the atom 330

A Zotac ION would also be a good choice for a compact HTPC.

With different versions coming wit/without the 90W PSU and with/without the WiFi, those boards would surely make a good HTPC once th eprice comes down a bit.. and also teh mini-ITX cabinets become more of a common place..

And it even comes for a price of 18.4 way cheaper than Revo

EDIT: Sorry guys the price that the guy quoted was wrong and i got a call from the Abacus VP that the finalized price is 18.4K including taxes. And it seems it has not been officially released but only for the promotions to IT vendors and enthusiasts it seems

Looks like Acer has gotten cold feet supporting the ION and gone back to a full [Intel](http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/14621/38/) platform with it's next nettop called Veriton.

My feeling is that the Atom may be OK for netbooks where the expectations are what you would expect for ultra-portability but it's still underpowered for typical desktop type workload. Why would you sacrifice 22K for it when, for the same price, you can put together a decent box that will run circles around it in terms of performance and flexibility? Only answer would be size, but once you tuck the box away in some corner, do you really care?

U can easily put one under ur car seat and use it with a touchscreen VGA monitor.

Perfect carputer!

I’m gonna buy one soon as soon as II decide on which car to get!

this 22k+ price is ofcourse higher…i bet if we can find it ard…we will definately get it for 21k-20.5k i guess…

And i too think asrock to b a better option after the dvd drive attached…might built the asrock setup for friend…he planning to bild one after ganpati
