After changing the RAM Speed in BIOS to EXPO, the boot time is slow. Is this normal?

I have enabled XMP profile in my BIOS (Asus ProArt B650-Creator). My boot time was increased after this change, is this normal? I was also told to make sure to update VBIOS for the Graphic card but didn’t because I felt it could mess up.

This is my RAM https://varietyinfotech.com/product/corsair-vengeance-6000mhz-ram/

and my Mobo https://mdcomputers.in/product/asus-proart-b650-creator-motherboard does support 6000 speed as well

When XMP is enabled, the motherboard applies higher memory speeds and tighter timings than default. This is because the motherboard performs memory training during each boot.

This can take anywhere between 30 seconds to a minute, especially on cold boot.

There is something called Memory Context restore. See if you can find it. Or in the DRAM Timing Control that I can see in the picture, set Memory Context Restore to enabled (if the option is there).

Hope this helps.

Thank you, I’ll try this step and update the changes here. What do you think about the VBIOS to update? Is it necessary because I don’t see any issue with my RX7700XT GPU with any games running at 1440p so far.

I don’t think so. VBIOS is messy stuff. Let’s hope this works. Do keep us posted!

Its not easy to flash a vbios like a systems bios. One wrong file and you are done with your gpu forever- kiss it goodbye.

Memory Context Restore is not available in BIOS. I only see a lot of clock frequency option set to Auto and one option on Anti Stop Fail count also set to Auto

Don’t mess with it further, just leave it if extra boot time is something you can live with else revert back to earlier settings. It is not like you are losing anything noticeable by not using XMP.

It’s usually under: AI Tweaker → DRAM Timing Control for Asus motherboards.

If not there you can check under:

Advanced → AMD CBS → DDR Options → DDR Memory Features

It’s a very common option so it’s unlikely it doesn’t exist.

As for your vbios, no real reason to update it as long as it’s stable and performing normally currently.

Sorry I couldn’t reply earlier but honestly I did not fund such feature in the BIOS. Here is the screenshot on my search with keyword DDR. Let me know if I am missing something?

Have you updated your bios?

And search for Memory Context restore not DDR

Although it’s recommended to keep power down mode and Memory context restore disabled for better stability with EXPO/XMP

Don’t search for DDR, search for Memory Context Restore. If you can’t find it within the search tool then navigate the BIOS manually like so:

AI Tweaker → DRAM Timing Control → Memory Context Restore

And enable it here. If you can’t find it in the above path then look inside:

Advanced Menu → AMD CBS → UMC Common options → DDR Options → DDR Memory features → Memory Context Restore

And enable it here.

The search tool can sometimes be wonky on BIOS(s) so just go through the menus yourself if it’s not showing up in the search results.

Will enabling bios work with Logitech Pebble Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse?
Or should I buy any basic wired KB and mouse for just enabling bios?

You should always have a usb keyboard & mouse handy while doing anything in bios. You can get a cheap usb mouse for around Rs.100 & a cheap usb keyboard for around Rs.250.

bluetooth won’t be on before booting into windows, so no

my PC doesn’t even work with my keyboard’s 2.4G dongle when trying to get into the BIOS, only wired works

Even while using the dongle?

yes, no idea how or why that works, but 2.4g dongle doesn’t work, bt doesn’t work

i always thought 2.4g dongle would be the same as just plugging in the keyboard but i guess it’s not

Okay.Now I understand. Thanks.
I will buy any basic wired kb & mouse combo.
Please suggest any basic wired kb & mouse combo also.
