hi, i want to buy a aftermarket cooler for my gigabyte motherboard’s 780G chipset. what option is available in market?
aftermarket cooler?? how much have you OC’ed the IGC?
780G is notorious to heat up on the stock setting itself… so an aftermarket cooler/fan is not a bad idea…
Coolermaster has some 40mm northbridge coolers & fans… I think Funky created a thread for new CM products… look for it..
i have not overclocked it but due to the compact size of my htpc cabinet which is zebronics dhoom, i have to keep it open, else pc shuts down. presently have placed one of the cabinet fans over the heatsink but not happy with the setup. the fan is noisy at full speed, so installing a speed control on it but prefer to have a good passive heatsink. googled for 780g specific heatsinks but didnt get any.
Will “Thermalright Chipset Cooler HR-05 Sli” sit nicely over 780g?
Also is there aftermarket cpu cooler which when mounted on cpu will be able to blow air over the chipset cooler as well. the stock cpu cooler dosen’t let air flow over to the chipset side.
last option i have in mind is change of cabinet to zebronics cube, to accommodate the coolers if required
- can you confirm if it is the mobo getting heated or the processor? I have a 780g as well, and the NB can get really hot but also take a lot of beating.
Try and measure the temperatures and see what is getting heated.
- Also it seems yer cabinet might be having some ventilation issues as well.
dont think its the processor as she is underclocked at 2.4Ghz. the shutting down stops once i keep the small fan over the chipset. there is cooling issue with the cabinet as space is very limited and i dont have provision to put in more fans. who can i contact to get zebronics cube home deliver? want to change cabinet so that i can put in one more hard disk (present one is almost full) and my HD2600 pro in hybrid configuration as its lying not used.
thinking of getting vortex 752 for the cpu and CM blue ice for chipset, as per Funky’s new product post. please advice.
gigy,
Could you please give me the size of the stock NB and SB heatsinks on the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H. My cousin is getting that mb. The stock NB heatsink looks quite big in pics. Thanks.
Just want to know if a small fan can be fitted directly onto the heatsink.
Edit : Is there a standard size or something for mounting chipset heatsinks - like there is for graphics card coolers ?
if you are going for gigabyte board take revision 1.1 which has a better NB heatsink.
the older version 1.0 which i have got has a heatsink measuring 55mm by 40mm. it might be good enough if there is good airflow over it. i have presently stuck a 40mm fan with hot glue on it, but this fan is noisy for HTPC concept, so looking around for better passive cooler. i will be soon activating 720p and connect to a 32’’ lcd.
OK, thanks. Let us know which cooler you use.
HE is underclocked to 2.4ghz
ok, he or she, whatever you want to call it was not needed for htpc to run at 2.9Ghz.
finally i had to do a diy due to lack of support from few people i contacted.
i threw away the stock amd cooler and placed a old hp intel cpu cooler, installed a glacialtech fan with a guard over the location of chipset, on the top cover. it sucks out the hot air thrown horizontally by the cpu cooler over to chipset.
now no shutting down and cpu is back to stock speed and chipset overclocked by 40%.
now only thing remaining is the HD change to 750, as present 250gb is full.
my advice, stay away from tiny htpc cases for 780g chipset.
