In the market for a Air Purifier for parents who live in Delhi. Have been looking at Philips and have been eyeing the 1715 Model for some time.
Looking for suggestion / advise on it ?
Apart from that I see better prices with brands like Honeywell and Coway. Is anyone using those, would you recommend ?
Tried offline stores for prices, seems equivalent to online prices with card offers.
I’m using 2 of Coway airmega 150. I found them good and simple, they also have 3rd party filter available, though I’ve only used original filters.
check them. also available on Amazon. i think they even offered a DIY solution earlier. there was a thread on r/India where a Delhi or NCR based user made a DIY solution.
Verify but from what i remember, quite stupidly, they don’t have a prefilter
Whats the point of all this research if you cut short filter life this way. We have a lot of larger dust that gets caught by prefilter and should be vacuumed as needed.
I dont really agree with their reasoning. It will definitlly cut short filter life and all it take is a few seconds of vacuum to clear out the prefilter.
We should anyway be cleaning the house regularly. Air purifier does not remove settled dust.
So doesnt take much time to clear out the prefilter.
Just buy something that has good airflow/cadr and cheap decent filters. Even hepa doesnt matter much as air will circulate multiple times through the AP. Its just marketing for AP usecase.
Also - carbon filters are close to useless in these AP. They dont seem to have enough carbon in them and stop being effective within a few weeks, perhaps a month - not sure.
@rsaeon had a nice DIY attempt that showed how AP works. With basic disposable sheets as filters.
The thing is I don’t live with my parents, so I’m okay with paying a little bit extra for non-diy things.

Buy the cheapest one with the largest air flow (CADR) and having HEPA filter.
At the end of the day it is just a fan with fine mesh on it, I can’t understand what Rs 25,000 air purifier will do extra compared to one priced at Rs 10,000 K
I think 25k will have negative ions. It does have a use.
I own the MI Air Purifier 4 Lite.
I like its live display and automation features. Live display helps me to find the exact source of local pollution; it’s extremely sensitive. Automation turns off the display and puts it in sleep mode at night.
Me too using MI purifier. Have had no issues.
Auto mode is very silent and sensors very accurate.
During Diwali it immediately showed high levels of AQI
Filter cost is quite reasonable.
I used Philips AC0920 last year.
It worked well for 3 days. Took good amount of amount to bring AQI down.
But after that, it was not able to bring AQI below 100 in a completely closed room after running whole night.
I also felt it made the room really dry as i was coughing after using it.
So i returned it.
When i was reasearching, the best I found were Coway and Mi Air purifier 4 lite. Both were OOS when i was buying.
Using Coway Airmega 150 since sometime. Pre-filter needed frequent cleaning but otherwise it was fine.
