Airtel fiber speed issue

I just got airtel airfiber installed with 100mbps plan. The speed rarely touches 90+ mbps and hovers around 40mbps most of the times.

I asked my friend with Airtel fiber wired connection with 200mbps plan to check the speeds, he was getting around 100 mbps.

Why is it so with airtel? I had jio earlier and the speed was above 85mbps most of the times on a 100 mbps plan

The worst part is, if I raise the issue on the app, it says optimising and asks me to check again. The speeds then touch 90+ mbps for sometime and then back to 30-40mbps. Is airtel throttling speeds?

It’s better to call them and file a complaint, they usually try to resolve stuff within the day. The chatbot on the app is not very useful. I’ve got a 300mbps plan and I always get between 300-350mbps.

Have you tried running the speed tests over a wired connection? Their stock AP performance is very mediocre, although it should work fine in smaller spaces.

Either way try calling instead of using the app for the complaints.

EDIT: My bad didn’t see that you were on airfiber. That’s just the nature of airfiber, it’s just glorified 5G. Even so you can try calling them I guess.

I don’t know if they are throttling speeds but you rarely get the advertised speed on airfiber. Everybody will tell you to stay away from it.

Airfiber =/= Fiber. So, it is to be expected.

I get the AirFiber is not upto the mark when we compare it with wired connections but, isn’t it just in terms of latency? Maybe bandwidth.

Also, in my locality, the speeds on Airtel mobile data are upto 200mbps, 90mbps easy. Glorified 5G should be able to match that if not out perform. I do not have Airtel fiber wired connection service in my area.

As for Airtel AP, i’m using my own mesh setup with wired backhaul. It’s the same I was using with jio.

I have 2 connections now.
Got Airtel after Jio had a downtime of about 3 days. Jio service response is also delayed now. Earlier it used to be 2-3hrs. Now, its 1-2 days.
Jio is prepaid and can be recharged as I please. Airtel on the other hand, is postpaid.

I will call up support to see if there can be any improvements but, if there aren’t any, does it make sense to keep airtel? IMO, it doesn’t.

Also, i got airtel installed just a few days back and I paid around 2500. If i surrender my subscription, any idea if I can get a refund?

If you can get regular real hardwire fiber, you should get it. You will most likely get a refund even if Airtel tells you no. I got a fiber connection from Airtel with a 6 month advance payment and got a prorated refund when I disconnected before 6 months. Customer care told me that I will get no refund.

Airfiber is essentially repackaged 5g ,so speed will always be inconsistent especially if the towers near you are congested.
Try and get actual physical fiber connection
