We already wrote about Istanbul AMD’s panned six core that should arrive in 2009 and in first part of 2010 AMD plans a whole 12 cores CPU. The CPU will have total 12MB of L3 cache 4xHT3, AMD-V and APML - Advanced Platform Management Link and something called probe filter. The information comes from AMD’s latest server roadmap.
The new CPU will be supported in RD890S w IOMMU and RD870S w IOMMU both matched with SB700. IOMMU actually stands for AMD I/O Virtualization Technology. It’s funny to see that there is no Nvidia server chipsets planned for this platform.
The platform is codenamed Maranello and it includes support for 4XHT-3 and DDR3. It looks good we have to say but we still have to see what Intel has to say about its plans for 1H 2010.
At the same time, AMD will have a new six core codenamed Sao Paulo and this 45nm part looks like an improved Istambul. We suspect that Magny Cours 12 core CPU is actually Multi chip module but we will have to ask around to get the right answer.
