AMD is working on a new Deneb-based Phenom II X4 975 core and judging from previous speed updates the new CPU might actually even work at 3.6GHz.
TDP’s can be as high as 140W, but that will have to be tolerated for such a speed. We don’t know when AMD plans to launch this CPU, but it’s almost certain that it comes in the first half of 2010.
Once Phenom stepping three is available there might be a chance to make a 125W version of this CPU. The plans are in the pipe, and the good thing about it will be the price that will definitely sit close to €200,the current price of Phenom II X4 965.
Its will be slightly better than a lower PII x4 oced, coz it ll be slightly more optimised to run at that clocks. ALso it OC bit better than lower models.
remember, PII X4 965 oced around 100~150 mhz more than the 955. And with the C3 stepping, it cud easily do further beyond 4.2Ghz stable, which was the mac stable clock of 965 c3.
this one is C2 stepping i suppose and if TDP remains same across that stepping for 955 to 975 then they are not OCed.. 975’s maximum OC limit will be better than 955’s max OC limit in same stepping.
EDITED: The news is pretty much old going by the date..and 975 is not out yet..
C3 stepping is already hitting shelves and i think 975 if there is any..shall come with C3 directly..
