Any eyeglass manufacturer selling good lenses WITHOUT blue filter?

I have a trip planned in the near future, but the coating in my current pair of specs in coming off in places, so ideally I want a new pair. All the options I can find (lenskart, titan eye plus etc.) basically have 2 options for lenses, basic lens, or premium lens with blue cut filter. While I do want a premium (anti glare, higher index) lens, I absolutely do not want the blue filter, as it makes everything slightly yellow, and muddies the vibrant saturated blues in the skies and the waters. Do we have any options for premium lens without blue filter? I live in Bangalore if that helps.

PS: state of my current pairs

  1. Never seen this happen, what are you using to clean your glasses? Most likely that is causing this to flake like this..
  2. Why not go visit a local shop? They have the anti glare option available without blue cut..

With a local shop, i had the option to chose. I skipped blue filter too, because of yellow tint.

A local optician would have better insights based on your requirements. I’ve found my local optician better with customizations as opposed to anything online.

Alright, I guess going local is what everyone is recommending. The problem I’ve had with local is the turn around time is on the higher side, plus I’m in a weird position where I’m attending weddings in my hometown, and will be back in BLR on Sunday. Indiranagar has some spec stores, but in my experience they’re quite overpriced. Will check and get back.

Yeah, that’s entirely my fault, I tend to sleep with my glasses on, and don’t generally use the lint free soft cloth (end up using whatever I have nearby, which almost always is the shirt I’m wearing) to clean.

Zeiss has some options that don’t include blue light filters. That said, I’ve not yet found a lens that doesn’t acquire a yellow tint after a few months (regardless of whether it has the filter or not). This includes Zeiss, Essilor, Lenskart house brand, and the japanese ones that Lenskart sells, I forget the name.

Idk what u consider overpriced, but in my experience, in Delhi, a metal frame, double coated blue cut pair can cost easily from 750-2000, for the same frame.

The lower prices can be found in markets like chandni chowk, but u will have to buy multiple pairs from them.. While anything above 1500 is considered overpriced.. Sweet spot is 1200-1400. These are prices found in most of the shops here.

They try to sell double coated lenses for way more, just by counting benefits over single coated ones, but if u know your way around, you will not be spending more than 1500.

In case you don’t know, this is how you can tell if it’s double coated or single, see that blue+green reflection, this means it has both coatings, now this can be done in both blue+blue and blue+green, idk how much of a difference that makes, I have both pairs but I can’t really tell a difference..

Oh btw, this costed me 1200, for this frame with spring loaded arm.

I am sure non blue cut, simple anti glare lenses cost less.. Also, I don’t think there’s a ā€œdouble coated anti glare lensā€, so it should ideally be under 1k with frame, for a good pair I think.

Wrong, Even I don’t use a lint free cloth most of the time. a shirt should not be doing this type of damage, I think this is caused by some sort of liquid that is eating away the coating.

@ze_cook How old are these pairs? Not all AR coatings are same, from my (very) limited experience the lenskart coatings, they do this within a couple of years. Granted, I don’t take care of my glasses well.

I also had a pair of crizal lens ~10years ago (iirc, it was around 5k), which went through even worse abuse but that never had this flaking issue over the 4+ years I had them. The only issues I had was the hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings had lost the effectiveness over time but that’s going to happen irrespective of the brand. I eventually changed them when my power went up. Otherwise they were still good.

But I’d much rather spend 1-2k on a mediocre lens and replace them every couple of years than baby some super expensive lenses.

These are lenskart as well, 3+ years old, though the coatings started flaking around the 2 year mark.

I’m leaning towards getting a cheap pair for now, with basic lens and AR coatings (and these don’t have the blue cut filter), and get a decent zeiss/essilor pair made after locally, preferably without the filter.

I also get this in tatti lens kart JohnJacob’s ones..using the current one since 3 yrs

I recommend looking into MR-8 lenses, if you haven’t as yet. My local guy was able to get me a pair that had most of the premium features, without the blue filter, and they have proven remarkably yellowing-free even after 3-4 years now. Also definitely cost-competitive versus the big brands, from what I remember, but I can’t recall the figures now.

Do you remember the brand of the lenses?

I’d asked at the time, and he mentioned something along the lines of it being their own/internal product, and I didn’t probe further.

I don’t know if he meant it being a product local to the operations here in Pune, or whether it might be something more standardised that they (ā€˜Ben Franklin’, lol) offer wherever they have a branch, or if it really was even their ā€˜own’ product. Due to the unknowns, and the time that’s passed since, I can’t attest to that chain being the right source to go to, in general, but my local experience, at that time, delivered a quality product that I’ve been satisfied with.

Got the new pair, cost me 1400. Honestly, this is enough. I’d prefer a higher index lens, but it’s not a deal breaker. No yellow tint, and as long as it lasts 2 year, I’m happy.

Guys, since eyeglass topic please recommend lightweight premium lenses brands I think rimless titanium frame in the 4–5K range.
