Just after I bought a ASUS ROG Gladius III !

I only wanted a mouse with easily replaceable switches.

I decided to try the full optical switches (aka left click, right click, scroll wheel, all optical switches) mouse with 2 years warranty to see if the claims of optical switches lasting much longer than mechanical switches is true or not.

From my experience, you will have to replace the scroll wheel a lot more than you replace the switches.

Razer’s optical switches lasted me for around 2 years compared to the Chinese Omron switches in Logitech devices. Wouldn’t say the type of switches or encoders increase reliability as much as the quality of it.

Yeah but optical switches cannot have double click issue due to wear because of design so that’s a major plus point.

The optical sensor cannot have a double click issue but the mechanical spring does.

Mechanical spring? I don’t think fully optical switches have any such component. This might be applicable to those “hybrid optical-mechanical switch” which mouse like logitech G502 X use.

Not sure about the exact ones being used in each model, but this is an illustration from Razer’s website.

Double click issue is caused by the thin plate like structure in the mechanical switch which gets pressed to register the click. In case of optical switch the registering of click is done by a light beam/laser. The spring in those switches do not contribute to double clicking issue, maybe to the overall life itself like once it malfunction the switch itself will stop working but it won’t cause double click.

the thing with razer mouse(can say for DAV3) it is actually hot swappable. But has annoying scroll issues.

I’m not exactly a gamer. I’ve become used to the shape and performance of the Logitech G1 and after that the G100s. Both lasted me more than 9 years : had to replace the left switch every (about) three years. Never had a problem with the scroll wheel.

Even though I don’t game, once you use a gaming mouse it’s difficult to go back to a regular mouse. I only (still!) play a occasional round of CS-CZ  the only game I have.

The Logitech G100s I was using till recently has lost it’s middle click. The ASUS Gladius III I have ordered is supposed to replace it.

Most razer mouse still use mechanical switch for scroll wheel & they are not replaceable as far as I know. That is why I decided to try a mouse with every thing optical switch to see how it fare. I am already used to spending 500-600 every 12-15 months on mouse so for me spending 1250 on such a mouse with 2 years warranty make complete sense. At least I will know at the end of 2 years if spending more on optical switches mouse is worth it or stick to cheap 600 rupees Chinese mouse with 10M huano switch with 1 year warranty & replace every 14-15 months.

True, though I don’t play games but it still takes me a few days to adjust to a new mouse shape & weight.

I mean if you have good soldering skills it is replaceable. But coming to sourcing the scroll wheel itself it’s hard DAV3 uses 15mm scroll. But yes most of them still use mechanical and their QC is BAD, it’s so bad that it has plagued even their laptops.
