ATX 3.0 vs ATX 2.0 – Is it worth upgrading the PSU?

Hey folks,

I’ve been reading up on the new ATX 3.0 power supplies and wondering if it’s really worth upgrading from a good ATX 2.0 unit. I know the major changes include native 12VHPWR connectors, better transient load handling (up to 200% spikes), and updated efficiency/standby specs.
Given that I’m planning to use a GPU like the RTX 4070/5070 in the near future, would upgrading to an ATX 3.0 PSU make a practical difference in terms of safety, performance, or longevity?
Also, are there any real-world benefits in terms of thermals, fan noise, or power savings? Or is a high-quality ATX 2.0 PSU still good enough if it’s from a reputed brand?
Would love to hear from anyone who’s made the switch or is on the same fence!

For 70 class gpu, 2.0 is still enough as long as you meet the watt requirement

Its been quite few days you have posted it, hope my two cents help.
I have a CM V850 SFX ATX 2.0 running a system with 7950x and 4090. All good.

You dont need to upgrade.
