It primarily depends on resolution, refresh rate, and how much performance headroom you want with the CPU.
At 1080p/144 Hz+, the 3700X becomes the limiter long before a high-end GPU does, so midrange cards make the most sense.
At 1440p (144–165 Hz), the GPU starts doing the heavy lifting and you can go higher without throwing performance away—the 3700X keeps up fine here.
At 4K or ultra settings, the GPU is the main bottleneck, and you can run top-end cards if you want, but expect diminishing returns since the CPU can still cap FPS in CPU-heavy titles.
Plays at 1080p on 144hz monitor. So used 4060 ti 16gb works?
It’ll perform well, but the 3700X will bottleneck it at 1080p.
