sorry mods/admins if this has been posted before..
this is kinda urgent. going to lamington road today at 2pm.
i need to buy wireless router and confused which to buy. main priority is
1.to get the best range in 2000Sq Ft area with 4-5 walls in between.
2.which one is the best brand in terms of minimal power consumption?
3.easy to configure?
4.works with hathway connection? because i am able to share internet on laptop thru ad-hoc wireless connection.
if any TE members are coming to Lamington today, we can have a mini meet there as i have to buy many things today will post up in show-off if the purchase is good enuff to show-off. waiting for quick replies
i feel the G54S should be more than enough, as long as u can locate it centrally..although if u dont mind spending the extra dough, go for the HP-G54..awesome range
buddy im plannin to buy the same router for my home, can u tell me how good is the range? meanin does it work on 1 floor up/down? an range across walls as well…
If you are up for it, try flashing firmware with dd-wrt to solidify range settings even more. A lot of people here at TE have used this firmware (including me) and it’s great. It gives you far more control over router settings than regular firmware by Buffalo. I have heard you can even buy modded routers with this firmware.
my router gives 1/2 antenna level between 2 thick walls + a TV cupboard construction and it can hardly reach at my parents room so i am gonna buy a big lan wire and shift router to the main entrance/lobby. so i will get full signals everywhere. the range and speed of transfer is amazing..
Sort of a bump to this thread. I have decided to go wireless with my MTNL. I will be connecting an Xbox, 1 PC, 1 Laptop and a PSP.
I have also decided to junk the Dlink MTNL supplied with the connection. And I have decided to get a Wireless router.
I am almost set on the buffalo g125 (if I can find it at Nehru place). So a couple of quick questions. How easy is it to set up with MTNL? I am assuming its a PPPoE connection and all I have to do is setup the username and password.
Second question. Does the router have a RJ11 slot? Can I plug my phone line into to and connect or do I have to bridge and use the Dlink?
I would rather junk the Dlink as its dropping sync an afull lot now.
buffalo g125 is just a wifi router you will need the dlink modem.
You dont have to do anything, just plug it in, it configures everything automatically. Set the ip in ur laptop to obtain automatically, connect to the network, thatz it.
