I wanted to buy an LG dishwasher but after going through this thread I’m definitely going to buy Bosch. Is 13 place sufficient for family of 4? Are there other advantages for 14 place other than just more utensils?
We are using a 13-place dishwasher for a family of 5, and it works well, although I do wish I had opted for a 14/15 place one on certain days. They usually come with a third rack on top for cutlery, and that seems convenient. Plus, slightly better internal space optimisation. External dimensions are pretty much the same from what I saw. Might as well go with 14 place as long as the price difference isn’t a lot.
More utensils means lesser reloads. More water and electricity savings (it takes 8L per wash)
Oh i didn’t know that. I assumed it detects how much water based on how many utensils. I blame the advertisement videos that portray it like that.
Also, does it clean hard oil stains too or do we need to rinse utensils before putting them in dishwasher?
I think LG quad wash basically steam wash is superior. So worth it if the price is right.
Also one killer feature few electrolux models have is 10 degrees door opening during the end. It brings out dry dishes and hopefully longer life of inside tub due to escaping heat.
It cleans in 2 consecutive washes
I’ve always had to rinse hardened residue, like those from a kadhai or tea pan after lots of boiling. They’ve never gone away even using the “Intensive Kadhai” mode. So I pre-rinse and lightly scrub them off before loading, and the dishwasher works just fine in a single load after that.
I’d like to find out just how much harderned residue is too much for a dish washer because half our utensils are like this.
It would be hard to quantify that, but I’d say I do it with 1-2 of our utensils at most (typical north indian cooking), and that too once in a while. I don’t need to do that for 95% of utensils. By hardened residue, I mean when things get burnt and form a hard black layer at the bottom of a kadhai or other utensils, or when you boil tea or milk a lot and it forms a brown/black layer that’s caked on. So stuff that would take some effort, even with a scrubber.
I’m not sure if I answered it to your satisfaction, but feel free to ask more, and @kagz/@sanky can also chime in.
That definitely answers my question, thanks! I thought that even gravy layers need to be scrubbed off.
One last question though. What’s the maintenance cost for heavy usage (twice a day everyday)
The powdered detergent I use costs me roughly 6 per wash. Other brands (Finish/bosch) can cost up to 8 or so. So that’s 360 to 480 a month (6 or 8 * 2 * 30)
A bottle of rinse aid and salt lasts me 2-3 months, so that’s roughly 100-150 a month.
I haven’t measured the electricity usage, but my bill has hovered around a similar amount. I mostly use the longest cycle (vario eco + eco mode) that saves water and electricity, as I load it before sleeping. Common estimates are around 200ish a month, but someone else would be able to help you better here, as I don’t have any numbers I can share with confidence. For a rough calculation, we can assume 300-400 a month, assuming twice a day usage every day.
Your water consumption will definitely drop since it uses much less water compared to handwashing. So if anything, your water bill should drop or remain the same. No way that it will increase.
All in all, based on the things I mentioned, 750-1000 per month for twice a day usage every day seems like a fair estimate. Detergent at 50% approx is the bulk of this cost.
I can show you a before and after picture the next time
My refill salt light hasn’t come on since purchase. I use the dishwasher weekly once or twice.
On setup had added 1kg salt, I see water in the salt compartment. Can you share if you got the salt indicator on your bosch units. I do get rinse aid indicator.
How frequently the “refill salt” light comes up is dependent on water hardness and usage frequency (yours is very low). I think mine comes up once every 3 months with daily usage.
Right. I refill it every 2 months. Got the indicator twice I think. I use dishwasher twice a day (sometimes 3 times)
How are Siemens appliances when compared to Bosch
I have recently started looking for a dishwasher. I genuinely thank you for this detailed review.
Siemens and Bosch are literally the same. Bosch owns Siemens. Siemens focus more on premium market and modern design.
You are welcome
