Bosch Dishwasher 13 Place

Hey all

My Bosch Dishwasher turns 1 tomorrow.

Before Bosch, I used a Voltas Beko for 3 months, got tired because of poor support and poor product quality.

This is my genuine review for those who may find it helpful.

Cons of Voltas

  • poor cleaning

  • hard stained dishes needs two washes almost every time

  • hot water cleaning is irregular

  • lots of errors (E01 and E02) if your water supply takes a break and it takes a lot of effort to fix them

  • not beginner friendly

So I decided to sell the dishwasher to someone I know taking a big loss.

Pros of Voltas

  • it is cheaper than other options.

To be honest, Voltas is priced aggressively and it’s the cheap tag that got me into buying the machine.

After much research, I got a Bosch Dishwasher 13 Place from Flipkart for 39k after card offers. It’s a good price to get it. The usual price is 45k, and if you have some card offers, it usually comes under 42k.

Pros of Bosch

  • beginner friendly

  • excellent cleaning

  • sturdy and less prone to scratches

Cons of Bosch

  • price is a bit higher than other options

  • service is slow

Now, to run a dishwasher, you need 3 things other than water, electricity, and dishes.

  1. Dishwasher salt - helps to soften hardwater.

I tried most of the dishwasher salt brands and DIY ones.

For DIY, you can use himalayan pink salt crystals. It works fine. But the price is close to 120/kg.

I have a borewell, and 1kg salt can easily last for two months

For commercial salts, get the Bosch dishwasher salt 5kg pack from Amazon. It will be close to 600rs, which is both cost effective and high quality.

I have tried most brands from Amazon and Flipkart, nothing is as cost effective and efficient as Bosch salt.

  1. Dishwasher rinse aid - helps to dry and shine your dishes

I am a DIY enthusiast. So, I just use synthetic vinegar (prepared from 5% acetic acid) and a few drops of lemongrass essential oil. Just plain vinegar would do the trick.

A good commercial alternative is rinse aid from Finish brand. If you are frugal, just use synthetic food grade vinegar.

1L of rinse aid lasts at least 3 months. If you use the dishwasher more than twice a day, then 2 months would be the average lifespan.

  1. Dishwasher detergent - to help with cleaning

There are many options for detergent.

  1. powder - most cost effective

  2. gel - fancy and a bit costly than power

  3. tablet - too fancy, but practical. Most costly option

I have used all three, and I stuck with powder because of a few reasons.

  • control the amount of detergent to use

  • cost effective

  • minimal wastage

I have tried most of the brands, and all top selling ones work.

For cost effectiveness, I am using Bosch dishwasher detergent. A 1kg pouch costs 400 and it lasts for 30-45 days depending on usage. I run the dishwasher 3 times a day on full load.

But powder can be messy. If you do not have the time and patience to scoop out powder, then tablet is your friend. But beware of the microplastic waste you generate with tablet. Finish tablet is fantastic.

Gel is a bad choice. Just don’t do it.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer.

Yes, the dishwasher is completely worth it. It saves a lot of time and water.

No, it does not consume much electricity.

yes im looking to purchase bosch dishwasher asap when offer comes, did you try using dishwasher for cookers and stuff(like rice cooked pans) do they get cleaned well without our half work like cleaning up al mess and stuff

What is the exact model you bought, can you give a link.

I’ve used a Bosch 13 place dishwasher (SMS66GW01I) for 3.5 years and have had a great experience so far.

There are certain expectations you should have in mind. You need to scrape off large food bits or you risk clogging the dishwasher. Also, those stubborn burn stains/residue or food that’s really glued to your cooker, kadhai, chai ka pan don’t get completely removed. I’ve given it a shot, even in the supposed intensive kadhai mode, but they persist, although some amount is still removed. So I pre-rinse and lightly scrape along those areas to loosen them. My general advice, regardless of using a dishwasher or doing dishes by hand, is to rinse them a bit after you’re done so the food residue doesn’t harden later, assuming they’ll be washed after a while.

Apart from this, it works well. I usually load the dishes at night and use the longest cycle (3.5 hours) in the Eco Mode + the “Vario Eco” additional function/modifier, the latter reducing the water and energy consumption further. I use other modes when I don’t have enough time and am loading during the day (Usually 1.5 hour cycles), or the intensive kadhai mode when the dishes are heavily soiled.

I’ve used Fortune detergent, rinse-aid, and salt all along and they work well. Plus, they cost way lesser than competitors like Finish/Bosch.

Alright, now I’m off to do my dishwashing guided meditation practice or listen to a podcast while loading the dishwasher lol.

As long as the material is steel, the dishwasher does the job

Nice!
I have tried fortune. Unfortunately, it does not clean the dishes as Bosch or Finish. It is definitely cheaper though.

My experience is different for burned marks. If the burned mark does not go away in one wash, just put it again for another. I never rubbed or rinsed any kadhais manually.

But make sure to remove large food wastes. If you don’t remove them, it’s not the end of the world as there is a filter in the exhaust. The only downside will be that you will have to thoroughly clean the filter every week. If you remove large blocks of food, then you can clean the filter once a month and use a descaler.

Use crystal based descaler rather than gel.

Pro tip: if burn marks still persist just drop some washing soda on them before placing them in the dishwasher.

been using same Bosch since 2017, brilliant machine…

Same here.
Bosch is Bosch. Nuff said

I mean, is it really that much better to have a dishwasher? It’ll use electricity and more expensive washing liquid too.. and still have to rinse a utensil before putting it in and then have to wait for it to finish and then take the utensils out.. seems like a hassle tbh…

You don’t have to rinse before wash

3 no non sense reasons a dishwasher is always better
1 - Saves a LOT of water compared to hand washing
2 - Saves time ( i personally spent an hour a day during covid lockdown and that time is freed for anyone doing the dishes. Time is money.
Electricity is compensated in the savings of not having to run the motor to fill the tank to use the kitchen tap, the powder / tablet / rinse aid & salt is similar to the dishwash vim soap / liquid and scrubber in the long run.

3 - Much cleaner dishes in the long run. Go check out the nooks an corners of the mixy jars and other curved utensils and I am sure you will find hardened dirt and grit over the months / years. Those will eventually get cleared with a dozen cycles or so in the dishwasher.

The only drawback is the upfront cost of 30 to 50k, but you can imagine it being a 1 shot payment for the labour of 5 to 10 years of manual cleaning (which actually will be more than the dishwasher cost)

Did I mention that it saves a LOT of WATER?

Steel corrodes in the dishwasher. It has to be stainless steel.

Thick microwave plastics, ceramics, heat friendly glass, they all work too.

Copper, depends. Works if it’s not coated/plated.

Wooden: no, as it becomes porous.

Aluminium, cast iron/steel: no, no.

We have made our whole kitchen dishwasher friendly. And, it was worth it.

I too got the bosch 13 place in 33k during september last year.

But I paid 4k for the original bosch stand, it is built like a tank but would advise to get a cheaper stand with wheels.

I have been amazed by the performance, only stubborn milk stain have a problem.

I got a stand with wheels for 800rs. Working well to date. Milk stains never caused an issue for me. I keep it in the lower compartment and sprinkle some detergent inside it.

Did you get it at that price (33k) online/offline? Was it during a sale period?

It was during the flipkart diwali sale.
