Buying iPhones with AppleCare+ from the US

Hey folks, I might be able to source an iPhone via a relative/friend in the coming months from the US and I wanted to understand the implications of buying with AppleCare+. Appreciate any advise on this matter!

  1. Is it okay if the initial AppleCare+ purchase is done from the US itself? Will this allow me to purchase renewals in the future even if I’m in India?
  2. Is it okay if AC+ is not initially purchased in the US? Can I purchase it from here within 60 days, but same type/value of US AppleCare+?
  3. Has anyone tried renewing the AC+ purchase since it’s allowed to do so if source of purchase is US? Does it work out fine even if you are in India now?
  4. Has anyone tried to get official repair services for iPhones purchased in US under AppleCare+? Did you face an issue due to parts pairing? (i.e. source country’s (US) parts are different from India)
  5. Any gotchas I should be aware of?
  6. Any gotchas for products like Apple Watch?

CC @Slayer69 who in an earlier discussion made me aware that AC+ renewal via US purchase should be doable.

Activate in India and call customer care to get apple care within 30-60days of purchase.

I have done same for my watch and macbook.

this is a nice way to get device cheap and future proof :fire:

Thanks, have you done a renewal or had to get any of your items serviced so far?

Yeap, and AC+ renewal is a very nice thing. I really hope they bring that here, I honestly wouldn’t mind paying for it.

Apple has international warranty for all other products apart from iPhone. I would advise OP to check with CC before the purchase.

If your US phone cannot be repaired under Apple Care+ or basic warranty, they will replace it with Indian model.

This works for me, as long as AC+ yearly renewal stays the same. Is this from your experience or do you have some link?

I don’t think they explicitly state anything like that. Not sure where you’re inferring from. If reddit, few comments say so but many others say otherwise. Concern is with part pairing — if some local model internal differences are there, and if they can’t source the part, IDK what happens but @d5aqoep said they can replace it still.

Warranty claim is different than sourcing parts. My experience says that they wont honor iphone Warranty from other countries. Mac/ipad and other apple products they do

Nothing wrong in checking with customer care before buying, as apple parts costs more incase something goes wrong.

I recently got an iPhone from the US and purchased ac+ after setting it up here in India. I added it directly from my Apple account, it showed me an option saying x days left to add coverage. The option was also there in iPhone settings.

Later when I visited the aervice center to get my AirPods fixed, I asked them if my ac+ warranty was valid. The person me asked where I purchased the AppleCare plan from, so, I told her, from the website here only, and she said thats it’s an international warranty so it’s valid.

Not sure about other methods, but these are just my two paisa. As always, DYOR.
