hey guys, i have this server fan but am unable to find a clear pinout for this type of connector , i checked the data sheet but the colors of the wires mentioned on it are slightly different to what mine has. I want to be able to power it using pwm and measure the rpm, but if not possible use it only using vcc and gnd and control speed with vcc voltage
Most likely your RED and BLACK wire is + VCC and - GND.
Rest you only need to find two wires, one for TACHOMETER output single and the other for PWM input signal.
Lets say if nothing is connected to the PWM pin, and you power the fan via 12V on the RED and BLACK wire. The fan will run at full speed.
Find the TACHOMETER wire first.
At this point the TACHOMETER pin should be giving out a signal, you can check with multimeter, the voltage on it might be close to VCC. From here you might be able to trace the TACHOMETER wire among rest of the wires.
The PWM wire expects a pwm signal at 25kHz frequency, I am not sure, but maybe if you try connecting the unknown wires straight to GND briefly, while the fan is running, it might just stop or run at it’s lowest speed, this could give you your PWM wire.
If the above doesn’t work, you might have to give it real PWM signal to the rest of the wires one by one to find out, the maximum input voltage on the PWM wire could be 5V.
Colour coding across all Delta fans is usually the same unless someone like HP or Dell wants black wires with their fans.
DPN is a Dell part number.
You should be able to find the pinout for the motherboard
We have
- red
 - black
 - blue
 - white
 - yellow
 - yellow

If we assume color coding is same on all delta fans,
then blue wire becomes your PWM, white and both yellow wires becomes your TACHOMETER.
i just checked with the red and black and yes they are vcc and gnd, man this is powerful for its size and crazy loud. even at just 5v its blowing power is crazy.
the white is also the vcc not sure why they separated it out but giving vcc on either white or red is spinning both fans. So why have 2 yellow wires for tacho?
yeah i checked this but the wire colors dont match with what is on my connector. no grey, no orange and no green either , but as you said dell and hp like to change the colors codes to make people crazy
One for each fan I guess.
