Care health insurance (religare), shady business.

I applied for a policy for my sister who has some preexisting health issues through policy bazaar. As per policy bazaar only one company Care health provides insurance if you have certain medical history which was the case with my sister. But care offered an alternate plan which was not originally offered to me by policy bazaar after they called me for underwriting. I did not like the plan so i rejected it and got the payment refunded through policy bazaar.

Few days back Care health agent directly contacted me and offered the original plan. He told me that the policy will get approved if i pay minimum 2 years premium. I agreed and paid the premium, all details were already available with them and the policy form was also filled by the agent.

I was waiting for the underwriting call which happens before the policy is issued. No call was received but i got sms that the policy has been issued. I found this strange that the policy got issued without underwriting call. I have emailed them but there customer care is not well trained or bother to resolve the issue. They keep asking for policy number or some other information. In one email they had mentioned the policy number but in the email they sent immediately after this they asked for the policy number again.

Later i got a call from someone from care who said i called to check that the form you have filled does not have any health issues mentioned when earlier when you applied (through policy bazaar) you had updated the health issues for this person. And the form was filled on their website. So what happened was that the sales agent went to the website impersonating me and filled the form without mentioning any preexisting health issues so the policy gets issued and he gets his sale.

I am not getting any proper response from them on email they just keep asking for details, the asked me to apply for cancellation from the registered id when i am already emailing form the id which i mentioned to the agent and i received the payment link on the same id. When i called them they said they do not have the policy number updated and i should contact the sales agent. I used the escalation matrix to contact their manager through contact form on their website but no response for two days.

I checked their twitter feed to find similar issues of unhelpful customer care. They are the only company willing to take insurance for many preexisting health issues, dont think they settle the claim when the time comes. Now they are not even helping in cancelling the policy.

Well how did you verified the authenticity that the agent was a direct caller from religare?
Why was there so much of a hurry?

The call was from their landline. No hurry from my end, i was waiting for verification call but they issued the policy without any checks.
And i got payment link from official email id.

This seems very shady.

Try writing to IRDA ombudsman. But do go through insurer grievance levels/steps before contacting them, otherwise it will get rejected by IRDA.

This is a major oversight on your part. Please make it a point to always fill application forms on your own, be it for insurance or anything else.
Right now, you could try installing the insurance company’s mobile app, register with the policy number that you have been provided, and see if you can cancel the policy.

There is no option to cancel on the app, I logged in to the app and saw typo in my email address. They say send cancellation request from correct id. There is option to update email but it is not working.
They have taken request on call just now, let’s see what happens I will have to pay some amount of premium on pro-rata basis till the time policy is cancelled. I will dispute after getting refund.

I called them next day to reconfirm if my cancellation request was registered. They told me that there is no cancellation request. Got it done again and took the reference number and then emailed them to acknowledge the cancellation. They reverted that it will be cancelled in 10 days. So now i have it in writing. I had also messaged them on twitter, they took my phone number and later told me that feedback has been shared on my email. They did not even contact me and my email in their records is incorrect. It is best to stay away from this company.

The typo in the email address is not a coincidence. It looks like someone scammed you within religare. This is very common even in banks like ICICI. I remember watching a yt vid 85 lakhs work FDs were cancelled by shady reps of the bank and turned into policies that the customer never applied for. Multiple policies under one name. No verification was done.

Yes because the payment link was received on my id , but in the account they entered a different spelling of my name. Now this sales agent isnt responding.

What about refund?

When they cancel they will refund after deducting some amount 400-500 rs.
They have an option to check your request status on the their app, I checked the status of my cancellation request, it does not mention the policy no or customer no , how will they cancel.

You cancelled too soon as getting these updated in their system does takes some time usually 4-5 business days. Thats why no no nor name.

I just saw a post on twitter , some one requested cancellation in november , he received refund in January with two months premium deducted.

All details are updated in the app, the policy number and the customer number. Hope you are right.

Got refund today, they deducted around 100 Rs which is fine. I will write to IRDAI now , the sales guy is probably still scamming others. I wrote to grievance redressal team of care health thrice in the last 10 days but no one responded.




Posting these twitter posts so everyone stays away from this company, they dont care. Yesterday morning i asked them for status of the cancellation and few hours later i got refund , in the evening they reverted to my email that the cancellation is under process and wait for 10 days, standard response without evne checking that the policy was already cancelled and refund also issued.
