I need CCTV suggestions for my home. I’ll add four night-vision cameras. There’s Cat6 POE wiring where I need to put them. I did not run coaxial wires through conduit pipes as I am betting that POE will suffice to power these cameras, also to avoid the hassle of running inverter wiring everywhere. I just need to power the router and switch to ensure the cameras work when power goes down for any reason. Though I’ve hardly seen power cuts in my area.
I’m confused about whether to get an NVR and store the data myself or go for a cloud-based subscription. I’m leaning towards cloud to reduce the hassle of maintaining an NVR and backing up footage. If it’s cloud-based, I need reliable recording. I’m also okay with only motion-based recording if it’s reliable enough. Otherwise, I’ll go with NVR.
I would say go with NVR, its no hassle to maintain to be honest with only cloud you are at the mercy of the cloud providers. They can jack up prices whenever they want and you will have to pay brunt for it. You can get Tp-link VIGI or Hik-Vision cameras. I personally have a hik vision setup with 12 camera around my house and office with NVR from hik-vision too.
Their motion detection is very good. I haven’t enabled motion detection recording but have enabled to indicate the time stamp where motion is detected separately for person and vehicle.
I dont remember the price of NVR but cameras were in the range of 6-8k,IIRC.
Ideally it should work with ethernet cable but the guy who installed it said that it requires separate cable. I havent paid much attention to it as I dont need this feature.
Maybe some other member can pitch in as to what is required.
Edit: Turns out that guy was talking bllSht, you dont need any extra cables, eternet cable is enough. You just need to change some settings. I did the same right now for one of the camera and its functioning perfectly. I got the audio output as well.
