Hi frenz, does any one know how to change the drive letter, my cd drive is showing now d: drive and my other hdd partitions, e: and f: , i want to change the cd drive to f: and hdd to d: and e:. . Anyone knows how to do it? Pls help..
right click…on my compouter…manage…then go to disk management…right click on your drive partition..change letter..
^^^ like cricfan said, but Windows will not allow you to change a drive letter on which the running OS or the paging file is located, in case you have the paging file on e: or f: then temporarily move it to c:
Sorry … but I have to disagree with you here… In situations like that, the disk management tool will warn you that you need to reboot before changes will take effect, but it will change the drive letter after you reboot.
How do i change the drive letter of the drive on which OS is installed .. the disk management doesnt allow me to do that.. it says that the drive wont be changed as OS is runnning on it..
what eazy said is correct re, even i have tried to change the OS drive letter, it won’t work.
Remember one thing - if there are programs installed on the drives whose letters are changed, you may run into issues with them. Of course you can fix this by simply reverting the changed settings.
To check this out, I just made a pagefile on my E partition and tried to change the drive letter and got this message -
I rebooted and the partition was still alloted E.
