Cheap record player needed

Hey guys,
Wanted to get a cheap record player, please let me know how I can get one or is it out of question? Additionally how hard would it be to make one from scratch.

^Budget - 8 - 10k

TBH I have no much knowledge of it.
But I always advice people when they talk about such electronics and budget.
Try to give your estimated budget here. So that people can advice you well.

If you can add how much you can stretch that will help further.

Please provide a budget, if you can afford to pay 20k, Audio Technica LP 60x is tried and tested, and the minimum you should aim for. Cheaper new record players will often sound way worse, but if that’s what you can afford, go for it.

You’ll find a lot good used listings on the fb marketplace, youtube, olx etc., and while they’re definitely great value, buying a turntable used often comes with great many challenges, and unless you’re handy with repairs, electronics, DIY, wouldn’t recommend.

Making a turntable, ahh, probably not worth it. You’ll need to build a constant speed mechanism that runs at very specific RPM, a tone arm that places a constant but barely there force of around 2gm - 6gm on the record (depending on the cartridge). You can’t DIY a cartridge, they’re precision electronics and mechanical parts, and you’ll need to buy a commercially available cartridge, ideally not ceramic. And after all that, if you’re using a standard moving magnet cartridge, you’ll need a phono pre-amp with low noise floor, you’ll be essentially amplifying few milivolts to ~1V, without adding significant noise in the entire chain (shielding, audio amp design etc.). If all this sounds like I’m discouraging you, I’m not, you can get sound if you don’t do any of this well, but will likely sour your experience.

And finally, after all that said, unless you already have a collection of records, they cost about 1k (min) to 6k (new releases, imports). This is not a cheap hobby :sob:.

Thank you so much, I’ll probably just get a second-hand Audio Technica then. My budget is ~8-10k. If there’s any alternatives please let me know
