I am thinking of buying Cowon D2+. It’s available on ebay for Rs 7300/- (with proper discount coupons ). Also D2 is available for Rs 6250/-. My question is weather D2+ is worth 1k more? I talked to a guy. He said there is almost negligible difference in sound quality of D2+ and D2. But as we all know D2+ is newer version and D2 is older. So Cowon would release firmware updates for D2+ only IMO. So what should I go for: D2+ or D2?
Please help me out guys.
PS: I am also thinking about Sansa Clip+ or Sansa Fuze. But people say D2/D2+ sound quality is superior than Sansa. Is it so? If not then I can go for Sansa too.
From what I’ve read in abi forum, there were no significant hardware changes between D2 and D2+. D2+ has BBE effects, which was the major differentiator.
No major difference as such .If D2 is significantly cheaper , go for it :). Also as someone mentioned ,from what I have read you can install the D2+ firmware on the D2.
As long as you have sad ass Cowon headphones you are not gonna experience great sound quality anyway..
I suggest you buy the D2, and play around with firmware - it is VERY easy and safe to do it. iaudiophile.net has very simple guides on how to do it.
I have the D2 and spent 3k ish on Shure IEMs.. and NOW I know what Cowon sound quality is all about. Spending on a good pair of headphones/IEMs is very important - I would suggest something from the Ultimate Ears ~90$ range..
AFAIK, as long as there is COWON dealership/resellers/retailers whatever… and they are selling the D2 - support will be available for AT LEAST as long as the warranty period. I haven’t been keeping abreast of Cowon news, but is there any news of phasing out the D2? only in THAT case should you be worried.. (although my above point should still hold good)
Well cowon has stopped producing D2 now…and the dealer here is clearing the stocks for D2…and it’s most probable that cowon will not release any further firmware updates…that’s why i’m going for D2+
I have already mentioned that there is no major as such between difference between a D2 and D2+ . The BBE+ which is there in the D2+ can be achieved in a D2 as well by modding the D2 to a D2+ firmware. The D2+ firmware can be forced on a D2 using the following mods.
What about warranty ??
My frnd got d2+ from US(in Nov 09) and he had to pay almost 2k for minor repairs in India as they do not entertain anything bought from abroad but India.
Cowon dsnt have global warranty..
He was regretting buying it from US..
the cost is high in India bcoz of custom duty and VAT which is pain in the a** for consumer like us..
I have a Cowon D2+ 16GB.I guess i paid around 7.5K got it thru KMD( I am not sure abt the price).Never faced an issue with it .Just that a stupid friend of mine sc***ed up the USB port on the player.It does work but can die any time.I spoke to the Cowon NZ if i pay $50 they can send it to Korea and claim warranty.
One word Konquerror ,get it from US and spend the extra money on the IEM’s.
Don’t know…but I’m more inclined to buy it in India…D2 4GB with 1 year warranty for Rs 6250/-…it’s electronics…you never know what would happen to it…I had a bitter experience of buying a laptop from US…it was HP and it’s video card went bad after 11 months…it was not serviceable in India as that particular model was not launched in India…laptop is laying dead since then…
Yes, I suggest you have peace of mind and get it from India. I get stuff from abroad only if they are not available in India. There are thousands of things that can go horribly wrong with an electronic product !!!
