Okay guys, I got the Dirt 2 Coupon with HD5850 purchase. I downloaded the 10GB game via STEAM
Guess what happens, I get this:-
“Dirt 2 Executable has stopped responding”
after saving profile and coming to the loading screen. I’m soo pissed off, cant find any solution. The problem has been reported over and over again in different forums, but no solution works. I’m utterly pissed off.

Try this:
Open Steam
My games
Right click on game
Properties
Verify integrity of game cache
I have the exact same card, playing Dirt2 no probs, what OS are you using? Maybe the files were corrupted during download. Also try updating the Catalyst driver.
Okay, I did that, I did that twice.
Reinstalled the latest Games For WIndows Live software again. GOt openal32 installed. ALso, I re-installed catalyst 10.2…
No thing at all. I downloaded a crack from the net, guess what, I WAS ABLE TO LOAD INTO the game, but as soon as I reached the menu, PUFF!!!

Right now, I bought a PIRATED Dirt2 Copy from my locality to check whether it’s STEAM or the game itself.
Well, the PIRATED copy got the EXACT same problems. So I tried out the game on my friend’s computer who too has a (AMD)Phenom II X2 and HD4850(ATi)..
Interestingly the same PROBLEM was encountered again… WTF IS UP???

Have u both installed the same OS from the same source or DVD…?
If yes then it cud b a OS prob,
i once finished dirt 2 on win 7 7100 trial. Now im on 7600 and is yet to try dirt2 again. hope it goes well.
My friend’s OS is his own. And I installed Vista x64 to try it out, no relief..
Is it something with x64?? Shud I try with a 32-bit OS??? I’m pretty much facked out, and it takes times u noe to install an OS.
btw, my AV was auto eliminating game exe whenever i try to run it. I had to disable the AV, and recopy the main exe everytime i need to play.
try disabling the AV
Even i get this error sumtimes,i get it in ME2 also…still not able to find out y…i thought may b fraps running thats y…
Tell me have u overclocked ur GPU?
Did you try redownloading 10gb data again ?

Have you tried verifying game integrity in steam? (As mentioned in my prev post)
If yes, and it still dint work, try De-fragment local game cache (in Steam) too. Worth a shot.
Try getting the crash report using EventViewer and google up the cause. Seems to be a one off issue, I think you are up for some hit and trial…

There’s a registry error result in google, but it’s for Dirt, not Dirt 2… seems Dirt had similar problems as well!!!
AV clear, no override on software, tried with disabled(norton btw)
that wud be my last solution…it’s painful setting up the computer again, with all the software… and installing STAKLER again, it’s gonna be a long day boy…
Neways, I’ve deleted STALKER now and 'm prepping up for this…
Have you tried starting the game in compatibility mode? (Worked previously in windows XP etc)?
YEp, XP SP3 compatibility mode, and after that, I edited the config.xml to force DX9… but to no avail
I replaced the workermap in the dirt2/system directory with a new one(updated)… nothing doing…
