Do I need an upgrade?

Thanks for checking out my thread, I’d love to hear your thoughts on my current build. Always open to suggestions, insights, or even a little friendly critique from the experts here!

Here’s what I have currently:

  1. Motherboard: ASRock B450M Steel Legend
  2. CPU: Ryzen 5 3600X
  3. RAM: 32GB DDR4
  4. GPU: RTX 3070
  5. PSU: Gigabyte 750W (80+ Gold Certified)

Let me know what you think! Any potential upgrades or bottlenecks you’d flag? Appreciate your feedback in advance!

it would be great if you could add the context of PC usage … vibe coding, designer, gaming like game names . this will add context for suggestion you are looking for.

Keeping same AM4 platform,
if gaming is priority 5700x3d cpu,
for productivity 5900XT

Well, before that, what;s your budget?

Stay with AM4 and get these upgrades if wanna game only and save some monies.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D,
MSI B550M Pro VDH Wifi,
Sapphire Pulse RX9060XT 16GB GPU.

Or

If you want to upgrade to AM5 then you can go with:

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X(cheaper means 7600),
MSI B650M Gaming Wifi,
Teamgroup T-Create Expert 32GB(16GBx2) 6000Mhz CL30 kit,
Sapphire Pulse RX9060XT 16GB GPU.

Choose which ever config and budget is compatible with you. Okay.

For the most part, it’s either idle or used for gaming and sometimes for work (Designing). Although I have plans in getting my skills up to video editing and vibe coding. Games would mostly be COD titles, Indie and Apex Legends.

Not quite sure of the budget but will not be spending much on it. Mostly like Max would be 20-30k

I would get a 5700X3D and call it a day.

That’s it I will be getting that then. Thanks a lot everyone

Is the 5700 x3d even available? :sob:

Holy Smokes! True, I tried googling it and most of them are OOS or the prices are so high that it’s does not justify anymore.

5700X3D is either 28k or out of stock everywhere.

I think you need to go with AM5 setup now. I got mine for 40k which includes CPU, mobo and RAM.

Wait for a bit, it should re-stock soon, hopefully.

Imo a new 5700 x3d is not vfm at more than ₹ 21k

This is what I have done recently, I have upgraded my gpu first 1070 ti to Rx9070xt and CPU 2700x to 5900xt. This week I will be upgrading ram to 2x32gb brought from secondary market and hoping to find another kit in secondary market.

Currently, I am learning and running LLM’s in local and my configuration is
5900xt+ rx9070xt+ 4x8gb + 850 platinum psu + 1440p

I was sitting on fence with 5700x3d and 5900xt decision but went with 5900xt gives more threads and decent uplift from current 2700x. This is best decision I have taken as I start to learn LLM’s.

Again depends on where you want your build to settle down the line. Identify any bottlenecks in your day to day usage and see which upgrade makes more meaningful to you.
In my case, I have upgraded my GPU first as it made huge difference then my cpu once I started learning LLMs and now RAM

i think u r good to go for another 3 years

Is it cost effective and best price-performance to build a system from AM5? Or intel or mac?

Eyes closed, Intel. Cheap, faster single cores. Go for 12400f or 13600kf.

For a homelab with plex or jellyfin that can play 4k remux movies, which processor should I go for? And is graphic card necessary?

I am trying to keep it as power efficient as possible.

Mind sharing a bit more if you can. How did cpu 5900 matter here?

Also how is your experience running local llm with 16gigs gpu.

Thanks!

Server with Integrated Graphics

If you are not planning to use a dedicated graphics card, the following specs are recommended:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-11400, Intel Pentium Gold G7400, Intel N100, Apple M series or newer (excluding Intel J/M/N/Y series up to 11th gen)

  • RAM: 8GB System RAM (Consider adding more on Windows 11)

  • Graphics: Intel UHD 710, Apple M series or newer

AMD is NOT recommended if you plan to use integrated graphics for Jellyfin

I’m not expert on this, hope this will be helpful.
