Does anyone know how much RFID tagging and reader might cost?

Hi,

A friend of mine is in the dairy business, and he wants to have a scientific way of identifying / segregating milk cans that are transported. The various options that came to mind were Magnetic strips (the paper ones might not be useful), and RFID tags.
However, he is not sure of what the cost for RFID tagging and an RFID reader is. Also are there any other alternate methods to do the same?

If you can, please provide the details (inc. costs, pros and cons) for:

  1. RFID reader

  2. Magnetic reader

  3. Any other alternative

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks,

Mallik

Also, I would like to have costs of these in India, if possible

Thanks,

I think these people will help:

Bartronics India Ltd.

If you can hire someone good with programming then heres one that you can buy for cheap. The software has to be completely rewritten.

Permanent markers? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

if its barcode reader…

i bought a hand held for 5.5 about 2 years back from ernakulam…

Ya permanent markers … for milk cans ! I googled myself and quoted him US prices of Encoder / Printer and Reader … and his response wasn’t too inspiring :face_with_tongue: … I think he was being a little too ambitious … RFID technology is still not very widely used and so no mass production is done to bring down the costs. However, Wal Mart has made it mandatory for all its products to be RFID tagged.

What I found out was : Standard Price of RFID encoder / printer (passive chips) == $ 4500 upwards

RFID Reader == $ 3000 upwards

If I get another call from my friend, I am asking him to call Bartronics. Not wasting my time an energy more on just futile research :face_with_tongue:

Thanks a lot guys !
