EEEPC Vs Aspire One

Hi All…
Well I need a new PC for just my downloading usage at nights only or 24*7…

I thght of a Shuttle Desktop X10. but its not available in india so my queries have
made me choose between these 2 machines, ASUS Netbook EEEPC 1000H-160G or
Acer Aspire One.

As i have never seen or used these machines please help me. I just need to know
which one is suited for me according to my usage.

My usages are.

  1. For browsing..chating..Email.. so a PCMCIA Card option is a must
  2. Watch movies with headphones.
  3. a just night download rig or a 24*7 ON machine
  4. Will put this near my HT and use W-Fi or LAN conection to connect it with my main PC
    to stream video to it.

Will the 24*7 On or all night ON will hamper the laptops life?. more heat?. I will not underclock it.

As a download rig, it can be used but I wouldn’t recommend it.

As for your queries, here goes…

  1. No PCMCIA slots on either one of them
  2. No problem - headphones work fine :face_with_tongue:
  3. Like I said before, possible but not recommended.
  4. Streaming video to it will work fine BUT if you choose to do it wireless, even a 6-cell battery won’t last you more than 4hrs. HD content - 720p some say is possible but I haven’t seen it do it flawlessly.

All the netbooks do heat up - not a whole lot but running it every night for 8-10 hrs might not be a good idea.

@jerin: if you need a “PC” why go for a netbook? Get a atom + 945 and build ur own thing, u get connectivity options, as well.

Else you can also do away with a amd athlon based rig which wud cost much less as well + you get some upgradability.

well my stuff is in just my room… rest all belong to parents..i still live with my parents… as i got my posting in my hometown itself.. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: .. and we be moving in 6 months or so to our new house…so to be able to put something in HT in living room..it have to be neat or classy… that’s why i looked up shuttle x10 first..but..its NA… then came the laptops…as it be cute..and wire free… so building my own box and putting it near my HT… no way…

1gigs ram - 2k
wireless controller - 1k
hdd of ur choice n size
kB+ mouse of ur choice.

will sure look cute and will definitely handle 1080 with ease.

if its gotta be HTPC it gotta be HTPC why settle for the puny netbooks when u can get the real deal at the same price.

I’d recommend you refrain from solutions like these. If its gonna be in teh parents’ house you are better off keeping things simple.

I gave my mama n papa a htpc n after 3 months had to gift 'em a simple dvd player n put teh pc to solitair use. :face_with_tongue:

A decent programmable universal remote with a htpc setup should serve you much better than the touchscreen bling bling.

by Wireless controls i meant a remote/kb/mouse.
