Feedback request: anyone using arc GPU?

Hi,

Anyone using ARC GPUs in here (except arc310 for trans-coding in server)?

My use case is primarily gaming I suppose and I‘d love to try out ARC, instead of NVIDIA unless there are any red flags. online reviews are mixed so asking people here for their real life experiences. 2 main concerns:

  1. Driver support/compatibility with linux and with proxmox for GPU passthrough?
  2. Any negative experinces with gaming? would appreciate if you can mention any games you might have faced issues with.

cheers

I don’t own Intel gpus but both rx9060xt and rtx 5060 are better for same price.

not the same price man. B580 12G is like 30, 9060 16G is 40 and 5060 16G is like 50. based on feedback I got, not doing AMD so arc or nvidia it is for me. If I get +ve feedback on arc, will seriously consider it else its 5060TI or something used for me. will probably give it a week before I decide I think.

I was talking about base models you didn’t mention vram :person_shrugging:

that’s fair. think base case for new GPUs would be 8+gig VRAM now I think (ideally 16) so that’s what I was looking at. you are right about 8gig models.

I know someone who got arc and his arc and outlook towards gaming changed. Disastrous!

He sold it on olx and opted for nvidia.

How long ago was this? I’ve heard that the drivers have become better with time.

Some two years ago afaik.

same, but online, this I have heard mostly in context of windows. Feels tricky to find real feedback on Linux and Proxmox compatibility, unless someone here is using it. :frowning:

Will wait a few more days but looks like nvidia it has to be.

In that dept. even ATI/AMD keeps struggling quite often while only nvidia has polished drivers been decades!

Things have changed this gen, AMD drivers for 9000 series have been better and stable than RTX 5000 series. Nvidia had to release 2-3 hotfix drivers just to cover up for their fuckups.

@el_diablo sorry but curious, Are you running AMD GPU? if yes, running in windows only or Linux/hypervisor?

the reason for ruling out amd for me was the issues a friend told me he faced with drivers and passing through the gpu with amd so curious if you had any experience.

I have been using a nvidia 5070 Ti since it launced but faced a lot of problems in the initial months with random game crashes. Hardware unboxed have very detailed videos comparing the 9070XT to 5070Ti, even with older and newer drivers. While 9000 series saw quite some improvements with newer drivers, this hasnt been the case with the 5000 series. If not for my ML workloads I would have gone with the 9070 XT.

I am running Pop OS using RX9060XT 16GB and even play games like Witcher 3 without any fuss.

Thanks. Witcher 3 runs ok my 2060 super too btw. I also played god of war on it but was stuttering a bit in cyberpunk and Ragnarok. Do you have any feedback on running newer AAAs then witcher?

Thanks for confirming that it works ok on pop os though.

Intel has a major drawback now.

They dont have these transformer based upscaling.

I have never used Xess but assuming its same or worse than DLSS3, then DLSS4 and FSR4 have a made a big jump in motion clarity. I saw FSR4 in a limited way (int8 model and for small time only) and it looked pretty good to me. Miles better than FSR3. DLSS3 doesn’t look good to me anymore, atleast as tested on outer worlds 1 ( via mod).

So i want Intel to do well, but unless its super cheap, its hard to make a case for it over AMD now. Hope they catch up soon, but havent heard anything.

Wait for Intel B770 16GB since it will be released in CES2026 in January. So wait until then and see the benchmarks and decide.
