This was messed up, about half the crimped connections in the phase selector box came out during the install:
Really scary, I didn’t realize until I had wired up the mains ac connections!
Also used MCB bus bars (tinned copper ones) to clean up the wiring a little bit:
I promise this is an improvement, even if it doesn’t look like it:
I have to say, I agree with @yugaaa, copper lugs are the superior way to wire up connections, I need to get a lifetime supply of them:
It makes things so much easier, no more fiddling with ferrules that crack when tightened or stray strands of wire!
The manual nail gun is okay, I put in five per box and it seems sturdy, I wouldn’t want to test it though, it’s just a nail in mortar. I just need these to hold up for a few months until I switch out the main distribution box with something larger.
There’s a lot of safety issues to consider with the gunpowder nail gun. You’re literally exploding gunpowder, it’s possible the entire nozzle of the gun can blast open. So you need safety glasses, earplugs and gloves. Without gloves, tiny shrapnel will find its way into your hands. Always point the gun directly away from your body, do not be next to it, only behind. And never put your hand beyond the hand grip, use both hands to trigger the gun. You’d be tempted to have one hand on the wall and other on the gun, don’t do that if you want to keep both hands.
Thanks for the tip about the SPDs, I’ll switch mine out when budget allows next month.
I’ve just turned on everything an hour ago, I’ll let you know if they warm up over the next few days. But yes, you can wire in series switches for the voltmeters if you like.
If you want a clean look, this may be better:
