For Large screen TVs (65 Inch and Higher), what's your take on Sony/LG/Samsung Vs Everyone Else?

I have opened this thread to assess opinions of TE members when it comes to large screen TVs (primarily 65 Inch and above) on what you are looking for and how are your evaluating.

I am in market for a new TV but I am not using this thread to ask help on that but more like a generic pulse check. In the 10 min of browsing amazon etc, it is so overwhelming in terms of the well known and “aankh bandh karke kharid lo” brands like Sony/LG/Samsung and ofcourse these come at a premium and then we have other brands like TCL/Hisense/iFfacon something (cheaper TCL)/Vu/Mi and so on which offer immense value for money for almost half price.

Sometimes, price difference for same inch TV is like 50-60K between say a TCL and a Sony Bravia. Basically, Sony may cost double of TCL (as an example). And the TCL would still have almost every feature like Dolby vision, great sound and what not. When we see such things, it is difficult to convince yourself to still go for a 1.2L Sony when you can get a TCL etc. for 60-65K for same size.

What’s your opinion guys? Which large TV you bought in last 1-2 years and what were your considerations apart from the one you bought and why you selected that.

Just stay away from Onida. (Netflix and Amazon not supported) terribly bad experience with 69 inch Onida till day.

The traditional well known brands could perhaps still be worth going for if long term after sales is the priority concern. Otherwise, unless OLED is the requirement, I think one would have to be fairly clueless about TV tech to even consider anything other than Hisense/TCL this year, for the kind of budget that you’ve mentioned (Vu’s 2025 premium range isn’t as good as in 2024; not sure about the budget range).

In any event, Samsung’s lack of Dolby Vision support would make their TVs out of the consideration for me.

Not relevant to this thread but I have a 43 inch FHD Onida (Fire OS) bought in March 2020 and it still works great. No lags either. I am actually surprised. It has been 5.5 Years.

Remote went bad ofcourse so using aftermarket ₹250 IR remote.

Are you gonna use DTH on it or OTT or Custom Source on your TV.

Are you going to use it or say parents/family. How is the distance from the TV to your seating area? Is there a window or Door opposite your TV.

All these decide whether you need a LED/QLED/MiniLED/OLED. Also the speaker output & Input.

Personally I felt TV above 65in is useless for viewing DTH & OTT. I prefer high-res souce for it like 4KBlu-Ray Player, Android Box, GameStations, etc., The bitrate of the AV content on OTT fluctuates a lot. Forget watching Live Sports channel especially Cricket matches. I don’t have 65in TV, but stayed in Company Guest house for 3 months using Sony Bravia 65in in the Living room. Promptly connected a decent HDMI Cable from my laptop and watched Netflix 4k contents. Had a 1gbps connection too. Had a problem with the TV’s inbuilt Netflix app.

I think this dilemma exists across all screen sizes and not just 65”+. Of course the price difference would be proportionate but we’re basically betting against the brand reputation.
