bios untouched to date, wanted to flash, but didn’t yet. core goes to 860 w/ the capped bios(current). will do lot more, when the user uses a newer sapphire bios, say from mvktech. also the mems not stress tested(neither is the core, i used crysis level benchmarks to test stability)which does 2.5ghz easily. gives more perf(minimum fps more, sometimes average is more than gt too) than the 8800gt in crysi@vhigh(no flaming here please, or i will just close the thread) on 1680 res, i dunno about lower, i compared w/ the earlier msi gt i had.

also the output of the card had surprised me for the reason of many blurred characters and screen fonts on nv cards is not there when usin this card. the 3870 is a lot sharper somehow, and i notice the effect on a dvi connection too(even though it was a dvi comparison, analog is way better than on nv). Apart from that ‘signal quality’ ati cards are known for their IQ and its better too in games (yeah, a bit noticable). This IQ is resultin due to a crisper signal itself as well as the atis’ driver level optimizations.
this card turned out to be better than a gt, half the times even in terms of performance, but 100% of the times in terms of IQ(not only @driver level optimizations for better iq in games but also very less blurry ‘windowss loading screens’ or text at the bios display was very clear too. and this wasn’t a problem w/ the lcd.). Even though the output from nvidia 88gt was great/crisp on a dvi 22", the 3870 gave such stunning clear-crispy-so-less-blurry output that i was sorta shocked for the first time.
not blurting out the crap for a great sale but as a tester, i deem it nice to provide fellow testers/general dudes some info.
^its just a month old. fan is not loud at all. comparably, at startup, the msi gt did a lot of humming…this doesn’t. and in windows u can’t hear the fan. even on load, there is no jump(not noticable) in sound(crysis). also since i didn’t flashy to the uncapped bios, i didn’t get the fan to 100% yet(!). maybe at 100% it will probably make a sound. will report about that later or maybe the buyer prefers the card a virgin? , in that case, i will leave the buyer to flash it to bios that allows 860+(somewhere around 1ghz, it oces more than the gt, that too stock cooling) and do a 100% fan speed
might decide to keep the card. i was actually goi to get a gts 512 or the gt 1gb(had got this for a friend), but later decided to keep it for myself. now selling cause i want the rv670x2 or the rv680
hmm..gddr3 versions are somewhat slower due to ram which oces a lot less. this card’ ram can do 2600mhz(!), tested in crysis benchies and yes, fps does increase by a considerable margin by that extra ram overclock. If u oc both the ram and gpu then fps goes up a lot, and its due to the gddr4 ram for sure. don’t think about wasting 12k on a 3870 w/ ddr3 memory esp when ddr4 better models are around.

no DBI vs DBI: Data Bus Inversion - it takes more energy to transfer 0s than 1s. When there are a lot of 0s to move, it will send them as 1s instead and then use DBI to signal that all those 1s needed to be flipped back to 0s. This is a power saving feature.

You have to search a bit you can get the msi for 12.5+ shipping also KMD had an offer on the EVGA’s sometime back not sure if it is still on.
