Epic Games CEO: RAM price increases a ‘real problem for high-end gaming for several years’

TL;DR: Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney warns that soaring RAM prices, driven by AI demand diverting DRAM production, will impact the high-end gaming market for several years. DDR5 memory costs have surged over 500%, making PC upgrades and devices with DRAM significantly more expensive through 2026.

Grimm times

Am I hallucinating or is ddr4 pricing/availability improving slightly?

I’ve been able to find at least 3 different 64gb kits for around 45k online.

There were none on Friday.

No new AI data center will be using DDR4 or 9/10 Gen intels . Its just artificial greed created by suppliers and manufacturer.
The only buyers of these are existing users rushing to upgrade seeing the AM5 RAM prices not coming down till 2027

This is a good explainer:

Basically AI needs HBM and that’s where the money is, so memory manufacturers are switching to HBM and cutting down DDR4/DDR5 production to make more HBM.

It’s an intentional scarcity but it’s also one that we as consumers have no control over.
