GPU Modding : 9800GT heatsink

Greetings!

I wanted any expert opinion on removing/modding a GPU heatsink+fan.

I have an old GT9800 XFX thats *very *close to retirement… so i have decided to experiment on it with some old (heavier) heatsinks I have alongwit sum small fans (y’know jugar).

Thing is, now I wanna do something abt the heatsink/fan of the new XFX HD 6670 I have coz the small cooling unit it has wont last long in the hot humid weather (+35 C mostly).

So, any advice or opinions?

really like this option… didnt know they made GPU coolers

now the real problem, I am all the way in Karachi rite now, don’t know if I can find Zalman here (Its all Cooler master/thermaltake and Antec)

You can try removing the plastic shroud and can attach a fan to it(using cable ties or other gettho method).

Here is pic of what I have done with my 8800GTX:

This method helps to lower GPU temps by approx. 5C(in my case).

Sudrashan_SMD nice mod. been wondering abt the fan vibrations from a large fan like this… any effect on graphics?

Also, my ultimate aim is to put a similair contraption on my new AMD 6670 (XFX) coz it has a reallllyy small heatsink and an equally pathetic fan, which I’m sure is gonna croak one temps start going up in March/April (or I can sell it off at that time coz its still under warranty till Oct '12 )

guys i also wanna do the same thing with my 8800gt can some one reccomend me a good GPU cooler will be cheap if i get it from the US cause my bro will be coming from there this feb

Alas the GT 9800 is no more… having finally succumbed to my tinkering and the limited life GPUs have. It shall be missed (que montage of beautifully rendered games in my memory)

Oh well, on to the HD6670

6670? Wasn’t the 9800GT faster than the 6670?

um yeah! its hell lot faster… its 128bit only but 1gig, n faster more *richly *in rendering graphics then 9800. definitely worth the 8k I spent on it
