Thought hard about ER-X, Hex-S, Grandstream GWN7002 and this one before finally pulling the trigger.
Due to lack of reviews online and here, was a bit skeptical at first but after talking to few forum members, thought that will give fgtechstore a go.
They shipped using Shree Tirupati Courier, from Nehru Place, Delhi. Packing was adequate (I chose the free shipping option). Arrived in Pune 3 days after placing the order.
The router itself has very nice UI, loads of features, performs well so far. I am not a heavy user.
The physical ports are what made me go for this particular unit: 9 gigabit ports that can be configured as LAN/WAN, 2 SFP (2.5G) ports that can also be configured as LAN/WAN. I might someday ditch the ONUs and get SFP Sticks.
As I was planning to use existing 12V 2A Router UPS, power input was crucial for me but everywhere (datasheet, manual) it mentioned 24V 1A input. Found one youtuber who reviewed this unit, and while showing the ports he mentioned 12-24V as written near the DC In Jack. I can now confirm that it works with 12V 2A router UPS. The physical port is standard 5.5x2.1mm DC Barrel jack. Please note: even though the router supports POE Out on ports 1 and 2, I am not using it, so your mileage may vary with the 12V router UPS.
Also a thing to note, mine sits in a network rack which inside a cupboard with 2x (filtered) intake and 2x exhaust 12V PC fans (Corsair). So very high ambient (should be close to 40C) temps.
I noticed that only now. Also, ipv6 on primary WAN isn’t working for me as well (shows status as connecting - not sure what configuration I messed up and if it worked with other routers either). But I am not a heavy user and it didn’t bother me till now.
yes it is sad few small things has been missed. otherwise it is really good. 2sfp port at this price range is not available. I tried opening it to replace the heatsink with copper one but it is hard. even with metal case it is high. mine is gwn7002, idle at around 70c when i use a mini usb fan.
you can see the report and can try replacing the heatsink if you are rich to afford second one.
It looks well priced for the number of ports. Not sure about features. Is there any other reason to skip hex-s? I have a mikrotik hap. router and was planning to get another mikrotik device(without AP) when I need to expand. Spec wise this looks good but how does it compare to router os in terms of features ? If its on par, this looks more bang for the buck.
My mikrotik router is also 12-24V and is powered using a 12v 3A router ups. The router gets quite hot by itself. So, I keep them apart and in the open. Won’t you have issues with your ups battery cells if its sitting in closed area with 40C ambient temp ?
I am in no shape to answer that, but there are a few YouTubers have dived deeper:
Price vs hardware features mainly. I don’t have a managed switch and might upgrade to 2.5G, so keeping that in mind this was the best I could do for the price.
The 40C ambient temp for router is because it is in the network rack above a switch. The Router UPS on the other hand sits on the door of the cabinet, near one of the fans. Temps there would be lower.
really? my main reason was to get gwn7002 to get sfp module for both main and failover isp however as i am still using my PTP device, i haven’t got the chance. have you tried with a media converter before? sfp port is stupid if it will not work. i checked my WAN settings and it has PPPoe dial so it should work.
This is what I thought of, and I took the lead and contacted Grandstream. According to their technical person, it should work since it is a standard xPON stick; however, he said he is confirming with his main team. He also emailed them; the reply he received was negative, as seen in the snapshot I posted in my earlier response.
atleast for me with Nokia G-010S-A using Airtel connection. However, i don’t see ipv6 working even after it is enabled.
GWM is good value for money routers but they do have some minor issues like this.
i have few brand new Nokia G-010S-A which i imported, can give at 5k with 4 heatsinks if you want, it is very restricted but you can change all the important details required for authentication.
