Help purchasing Wireless Router with ADSL Modem

Hello everyone. I am looking for some help purchasing a wireless router with a built in adsl modem. I have been doing some research from the past 2 days and it seems the market is filled with a range of such products and I don’t know on what basis I should decide what to purchase? My budget is 2k to 3k. I don’t even know if whether I should purchase a G or an N router.

I have 3 computers in my house. Two are on the ground floor and the router is going to be installed on the ground floor. The 3rd one is on the first floor so I need something which will support such a range.

To help you help me, I am providing a list of all products I narrow downed to. These are all in the 2-3k range.

Also does anyone here have experience with TP-Link? Particularly their TP-LINK MR3420 modem router?

I am really hoping to find a solution here.

all items listed are good, check the model that has more speed and go for the same, all the above are 80% similiar in terms of performance/features. belkin comes with 5 year warranty ,others with 3 years warranty.Finalize with features/warranty etc.

Don’t go for Linksys WAG120N, search around the forums and you will find many people complaining about it.

I personally did not go for D-Link because my neighbor had one and it used to hang sometimes but I don’t know which model it was.

Also I want to know about range. Do you think the routers I mentioned will be able to communicate with a computer located on the first floor? (the router will be placed on the ground floor)

The range is actually going to be a very important factor for me.

True… Linksys has some wifi problems… I use Linksys WAG54G2… very stable connection… doesnt drop the ADSL line… but when I connect another PC or laptop to wifi and then join my phone to wifi by standing in-betwn the router and laptop the laptop loses connection and I hav to repair the connection… after repair it will work but after few mins again same thing as long as I hav the phone still connected to the router…

Check out the ASUS DSL-N10 too…

^^ I unfortunately bought the WAG120N and I am one of the people complaining about it :slight_smile:

Besides the unstable ADSL connection I was not impressed with the range but that could be due to the small antenna of a cellphone rather than a laptop.

^ ADSL disconnection 2-3 times a day for ~10-20 minutes. When I replace Linksys with the default Airtel provided Beetel modem there are no disconnections.

Sometimes the Wi-Fi just stops working as well.

Just wanted to update this thread by posting what I have purchased. I narrowed down my selection to F7D2401zb and DSL-2750U and after further research decided I would go with the Dlink DSL-2750U. I haven’t tested it’s wireless connectivity yet but so far the ADSL functionality seems to be working quite well.

Try configuring the wag 120N as WAN port, change its gateway address to 192.168.5.1, connect your beetel modem to port 1 of the WAG120N and RJ 11 cable to your beetel modem. Now the ADSL Functionality of the wag120N is disabled and you can use the adsl of your Beetel modem.. Hope this helps…
