Hey guys I am a highschooler wanting to get into cybersec for my uni i recently bought a pc which i can run as a homelab what should i run on it to get some experience
read up on proxmox
i am running proxmox with a truenas vm and pi hole
but i dont know which off my devies are using pi hole or not
what else can i try im running an hp 800 g3 sff which i got from here with 15 6600k and 16 gb ram
you’d have to make it as DHCP server and disable DHCP server setting from router.
how do i do that?
Not really. You can use it as the DNS instead in your router, or set it in specific devices.
i dont know which are my mobiles or which are my other devics what to do there?
If you set it as DHCP every device will use pihole as DNS resolver and query log in pihole will display device IP\Name.
Setting up as pihole as DNS in router will do query blocking for all devices but all request will be seen as coming from router. Setting up DNS server on all devices is PITA though.
Or you could set DHCP options on your DHCP server, if supported.
DHCP option 6 corresponded to the DNS server IP IIRC
You can check out the Arr stack and jellyfin/plex, if you want to have a media setup. You can also check out immich I find that it’s the most useful self hosted app I use. Then there is also nextcloud. And if you really want an extensive list you can check this out GitHub - awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted: A list of Free Software network services and web applications which can be hosted on your own servers
