How do you carry your thin/light weight laptop along with other things like dress, books etc.? That also in public transport.
Sleeve? Box? Separate bag? DIY solutions?
Reason I asked - when I keep it in the backpack, along with dress, I feel it get pressed from both sides which may not be a good thing for LCD and other parts.
Was checking for a simple solution like a plastic box, 35cm X 25cm X 2.5cm (thickness) but couldn’t find one of those. Will easily get smaller boxes or quite bigger ones online and offline but couldn’t find something close in size like this.
The worst thing that can happen to a laptop (esp these expensive ultra thin ones like Dell XPS and Macbook) is getting squeezed in a bag. The keyboard presses against the screen and leaves a permanent abrasion key marks all over the screen. A laptop sleeve will not protect against it.
Best bet is to use a thin soft cloth while closing the laptop lid. This cloth I had bought long back for the Macbook 12.
A hard rugged laptop sleeve may increase protection for screen against the daily jostle in a backpack. The cheap ones are just soft cushion to protect against the accidental bumps and soft falls.
Exactly! That is my nightmare. I mean, laptop getting squeezed. One of my non techie friend mentioned this and she strongly recommended something like you suggested. I mean, either that silicone case for keys or some cloth. Will start using that.
Regarding the hard case (plastic/pvc), I saw one in Amazon which is somewhat close to the size I mentioned. Will check more in Amazon.
In a backpack but with an amusing mod. Triangular corners created from hard cardboard (cut from cartons/packing boxes) and glued with a simple art and craft glue gun. Laptop fits into these and doesn’t get pressed easily in shoulder to shoulder traffic.
One can buy such corners made out of plastic from local market (search for glass corner protector or frame protector) but DIY makes equal sense and is practically free.
For longer transport like packing a lot of stuff in car, I wrap it in pajamas or thick jacket and then keep it in a regular backpack. No hard materials in the bag with the laptop. (I just did 5000+ km roadtrip with a fully loaded car and laptop. This should work for long distance train/bus travel as well.)
I use a leather carry bag which has a soft cloth that separates the 2 compartments in it. I put the laptop in one compartment and charger in another. My kid cleans her laptop regularly I mean outside. My laptop was bought in 2018 and still working fine, even she plays games on it. We carry it to our home town using this leather carry bag.

Going to try this el-cheapo option! Document (legal paper size) holder, which is basically a plastic box. 35cm x 23cm x 3cm approximately. Snug fit for 13inch MBA. The corners and edges are great, but when it comes to middle portion, there is a possibility that it may bend. Need to do something to prevent that. INR 270, bought from a local book shop.
Same here. I use a lint free big size cloth to protect the screen while travelling. By the way, if you have al-cheapo laptop then even the body can deform when it get squeezed in public travel. Happened with my friend. It was some Acer model with Celeron proceey.
