So we will be adding a dedicated 20Amp MCP for the AC…
So I suggested that we also add a dedicated MCB for my PC…
I use HX850 and rest of the config is in the sig…
The electriation was saying 6Amp will be more than enough, but I said 10Amp will be better…
But then I saw 12Amp written on HX850 box…
And the original Adapter that we get with HX850 has a 13Amp Fuse for itself…
Singe Corsairs PSU’s are universal, ie.100V~240V…
And 12Amp must be given for 110V (USA)
Also the more Amps we increase, the security decreases, as the fuse does not go off…
So it should be selected carefully…
How much MCB should I install???
Note: Only this 1 PC will be working on that MCB, not even a single tubelight extra…
My Corsair HX1000 used to trip a 6A MCB quite often during cold boots. I guess the transient state power spike during cold boots momentarily goes beyond the limit of a 6A MCB. I would recommend something a bit more beefier like a 10A MCB
Here’s an easy calculation - 850W over 240V draws 3.5A. Accounting for inefficiencies and to be safe, get an MCB 3-4 times that, i.e. 12A or so would be more than enough.
^^ It depends a lot on what you have in the PC. If you have a PC with a 450W PSU and not enough hardware, it wouldn’t really matter. You can run a lot of stuff along with a PC on a 6A MCB. If you have a high end PC with a beefy PSU, you would need to choose the MCB with care. Even if the actual power consumption is that not high, the transient state current draw can be enough to trip a MCB on its own. As I mentioned My HX1000 used to trip a 6A MCB on its own. It doesn’t mean that my computer consumes more than 6A x 220V = 1320W all the time. My typical consumption would not be more than 400~450W, but during a cold boot, the PSU can draw more than 6A of current for a fraction of a second and that is enough to trip the MCB.
i have 19’ compaq monitor + unlocked 555BE@stock + gigabyte 785 mobo + CM 500W extreme power plus + 1TB SATA/160GB SATA + 9800GT Green +2GB ram + 3CD changer
never faced any problem …
i know i need to change my SMPS but that will be done when i will upgrade my card
anyway thanks for the detail info and there is no point saving 20-30rs on MCB
