Hey folks , I just bought a used hp probook from a member.
Upon turning it on it worked. I tested the routine things like wifi and bluetooth and speakers and stuff and turned it off.
After a while I tried turning it on again and all I get is the caps lock led blinking 7 times, I haven’t installed anything nor changed any settings even . It was freshly installed windows 11. The display is completely blank not even showing the hp logo
I looked up on the internet and it mentioned that it could be a bad bios , so I followed the usb bios recovery but it didn’t work. I tried to see if the one of the ram was bad , that didn’t work.
The seller asked me to disconnect the battery and power adapter , wait for an hour and then try connecting the battery again to see if it resets the system but that didn’t work. But after doing this the power led is always on and doesn’t turn off at all.
Any clues as what is happening
Are you able to access the BIOS?
Nope unable to access anything . No display
Did u not get testing warranty from the buyer ?
Sounds like a return & refund to me.

Probably a hardware issue. Try to swap memory module. If two sticks installed then try to run on one stick, alternatively or get a test memory from someone.

If you fiddles with the RAM, you need to undo it, it should fix it. I have had this exact issue after fiddling with the RAM, fiddling includes adding, removing and swapping RAM, get it back to its original state. Also i would clean the RAM contacts if it still doesn’t work.
Remove the current ram stick and try with a different ram stick.
or
If it has 2 ram sticks, try using only one stick and put it in another ram slot.
I tried removing the ram , cleaning the contacts and placing one of the stick and booting , no luck tried with the second stick and booting still no luck
@@MarioBros yeah have the testing warranty, the seller is coming over to my location on another work so we agreed to catch up and deal with this situation
If the power button is not in the keyboard, detaching it and try to boot.
it is in the keyboard, so cannot try this option
Did u try both slots? This might sound dumb, but I have faced it.. Put a single stick in both slots one by one to try if ram in either of the two slots boots, and try the same thing with the other one (4 boot attempts (2 slots x 2 sticks))
Even after shutdown?
If you meant only when the device is powered on, and there’s no display, I would think it is something related to ram and you can try swapping sticks etc, but u can also try one more thing, connecting an external display while highly unlikely, it may show something on the external display if something is wrong with the internal display.. But I doubt this is the case
