HTC Touch Vs. HTC Touch Viva?

I would like to purchase on of these phones but am confused between the two. HTC Touch Viva seems to have come after HTC Touch but it is priced at a lesser cost of Rs.13250/- whereas HTC Touch is priced at Rs.14500/-

On asking at both the places Cromas and Alfa they told me it is because of some of the accessories (1GB mem card, Head phones, Leather pouch etc.) that are provided with HTC Touch and not in Viva.

They also claimed that the display they put up at alfa saying that HTC Touch has Windows Mobile 6.0 as OS is wrong and the new HTC Touch has Windows Mobie 6.1 the same as HTC Touch Viva. The HTC site mentions it is Windows OS 6.0 for HTC Touch. If these guys are telling the truth I am surprised that HTC didn’t update it’s site (Very Unlikely).

Saw up and working demo phones of both at Cromas and all i could make out was that the phones are the same apart from some differences like Viva is a bit longer than the touch and the screen is situated a bit below from the sides unlike that in Touch. But, that is all I could make out. (I know I am super dumb when it comes to mobiles and cars - I can’t tell the difference between a Skoda and a Laura except that Laura is the costlier of the 2).

So at the end of the day I am stuck to choose between HTC Touch and HTC Touch Viva.

If these are the same phones then and using the same OS (Can someone please confirm the OS)
I can go for HTC Touch use the 1GB memcard as a backup option and get a 4 gb Memcard for Rs.500/- and a scratch guard for around Rs.300/-.

If the OS is different then go for the VIVA get a 4 gb Memcard for Rs.500/-, a scratch guard for around Rs.300/-. a leather pouch and a headset (Funny the guy at Cromas mentioned that handsfree headset comes with a viva but the guy at Alfa said it is not provided).

What is the price of the headset?

A few questions that these guys wouldn’t be able to answer anyway so I didn’t ask them but asking you guys are:

How is the support for the third party softwares like games apps etc.?
The Mobile includes a media player does the software pack contain a converter for videos like moto provided for Moto Ming?

P.S.: I googled a bit for answers but most of the HTC Touch mentioned there belong to 2007. So those who recently bought either of these phones please help me out.

The OS on both phones in Windows Mobile , and can be updated (officially or unofficially) to Windows Mobile 6.5 which is the latest Windows Mobile OS , app support is pretty decent but you wont get as many games as symbian

Coming to the difference between the two phones , The only one i am aware of is that Viva has a glossy finish , Touch has a rubbery finish

Also on GsmArena , Htc Touch’s specs say 64/128 MB RAM, 128/256 MB ROM this prolly means that earlier models had less RAM/ROM , while all viva models have 128 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM , make sure the Touch you are being offered has 128/256

The Rom/Ram is 128/256 for HTC Touch, I saw it on the specsheet displayed at Alfa.

Tell me about upgrading the OS is it safe, can I do it on my own and will it affect the warranty?

As far as games are concerned I am planning to bauy a psp at a later date.

Yes , upgrading the ROM is very safe , checkout xda-developers.com , you can even find custom made ROM’s for your phone which may improve performance and add a lot of eye candy , for example i have an Asus P320 which has only 64 mb RAM and the usual WM ran slowly on it , so i downloaded a custom lite ROM from xda-developers which has unnecessary bloat removed and also has the manilla 2d interface found on HTC touch
