Not looking for selling or donating,(due to sentimental value) just wanna know how to put an old android device to good use ? like say torrent downloader etc
FYI it has decent XDA developers support, they just stopped working on it i guess due to 1GB RAM or else they could have even made android 13 run on it lol.
Did you check for options like Lineage OS, Postmarket OS, etc.
Try using as diy tinkering device like photoframe, alarm, temporary music player, etc…
I too have one. I’ve installed DroidCam on it and connected it to my desktop using a usb cable and am using it as a webcam.
Recently cam across an article which talked about using old mobiles as security cameras.
For a while was also using it as a wakeup alarm as I did not want my active phone near me when sleeping to prevent incessant and mindless scrolling through apps/news/media.
I personally like to have a spare old phone in case my primary phone crashes, dies or gets stolen etc.
i had lineage OS running on 7.0 I believe. It was usable.
I wish I had not given it away.
Was the lineage OS experience better than the stock one?. Mine is still on the stock android. Battery is OK though it doesn’t really matter as most of the time it is connected using USB.
I liked its small size for one handed operation, current phones have become too unwieldy for that. No expandable storage limits it use as a portable media player.
Not much of a difference in usage, apart from being on a newer version.
I still have the ballistix tough jacket case which i got for ₹2500 for this phone, just don’t have the phone. :')
I might as well start looking for a good maintained one for nostalgia purpose.
They come for less than ₹1000 these days
Hows the battery holding up for the G1 ?
I have a G2 which the battery does not hold charge now.
battery is holding awesome
You have tons of uses for an old Android device. Webcams, security cam, dedicated streaming device for Spotify, tidal, etc, car navigation device/bluetooth streamer. You could even use it as a wifi extender.

Slightly off topic…Where to source the replacement battery from for Moto G2 ?
I have a G1. My 3-year-old is using it. So you can give it to your kids without a SIM.
