iBasso - D2 Boa or T3?

Is it worth upgrading to the DAC in the D2? I have an iRiver with a true Line-Out port, so I’m looking for some good headphone amplification to go along with my Senn PX100s and (at a pinch) my HD555s.

Not sure whether the DAC on the D2 will be that much better than the one in my Xonar DX, and I can’t afford to upgrade to the D4. A cursory glance through Head-Fi tells me the headphone amp section on the T3 is better than that on the D2 Boa, so I’m leaning toward the T3..

Would like your opinions on this..

do you mean the digital out like in iriver 120/140 because if its just line out then you can’t use external dac.

^True. Techhead do you have any particular budget in mind ? The Ibasso D4 mamba is really good DAC + amp :). Also have a look at Pico amps.

Wanted to use the DAC with the desktop machine of course.. The D4 is a USB DAC/Amp, so I’m not sure it’s DACs are that much better than the ones on my Xonar DX..Budget of around 8k maybe?

D4 is an excellent DAC/AMP. Xonar DX can’t compete with it.

However, I would advise you to look into $99 Nuforce uDAC,Its getting rave reviews these days.

The DAC section is reported as being superior to D4,the amp section of D4 is more powerful though.

I’d say go for the D4! I’m on the lookout for a good headphone amp and i’m looking at the D4 Mamba. Although I have no use for the DAC :face_with_tongue:

@Techhead .Get the D4 mamba ,it’s DAC is very good (not sure how much better than Xonar DX) .But going by the reviews the D4 seems to be lot more superior.

If D4 isn’t in budget , even the D2 boa is good .I had read a review on head-fi.

The D2 seems to be out, it’s headphone amp isn’t as good as the T3. The T3’s amp section and that of the D4 seem to be similar in quality, and better than that of the D2 Boa.
Usage would be ~70% with my iRiver, and 30% with the computer, if that even. What would you guys do?

EDIT: iBasso don’t seem to ship to India. Have shot them an email, will keep you guys posted. Might just stretch to the Mamba.

D3 and D4 cost the same, so according to the reviews, if you prefer bass-heavy music, get the D4 else D3(temporarily out of stock)

Selling the xonar after getting the dac is also an option

iBasso don’t ship to India. Can you do so? If yes, will have them send to you, you can send across to me in India..

Ordered the D4! Shipping from Shenzhen tomorrow.. they were nice enough to go ahead and ship to India. Will update once I get it.

^Ja, ja it does! Very well, in fact. I’ve upgraded mine with a 2300mAh battery and 60GB HDD. Good for portable use. Looking forward to using this as a DAC though..
