India orders phone companies to install govt cyber safety app in every phone, users will not be able to delete it

Na snooping Smbhav hai , Na Hoga…Jyotiratidya ( Communication Minister)
( No Snooping will be done or is possible through this app)

Pretty much none of American companies can be trusted.

Apple was one of several technology companies involved in the U.S. National Security Agency’s (NSA) Prism fiasco

Whether you are pro sanchar or against, understand that IMEI number can be easily misused. Its the very reason Apple forbids any app from requesting it, from the likes of giants meta, google and X. Government cannot keep a list of these numbers just because they intend to protect us from misuse of the stolen device itself(Believe all you want that the list is safe with them).

Assume that you willingly share your IMEI number to an app as part of your profile information and the app records it. Now they have what they need to profile you perfectly for the life cycle of your device, irrespective of how many different accounts you create with them. To send a simple marketing notification they just need the IMEI. Now if you hadnt done this blunder, then atleast you can make a new account with them and start fresh as you were tired of the same targeted ads. The app doesnt know who you really are, other than the info in the account that you provided. (Now imagine if this very app had multiple other apps, they will all share the same IMEI)

See where this is going?

TL;DR : IMEI number can be used to track you cross-apps and hence is crucial to privacy. Go ahead and share this number with the government if you so please.

Where the hell are these guys getting their data from?
I had a random number in my head (not saved in phone), put it in, Got the name, exact add, father name, email.
And I know all of the info is true because I do know the person.

In the article it says they got info from all kind of earlier leaked databases including uuid and collated.

Thats too worrysome, imagine the leaked data being bought and used to generate fake IDs, and then for caryying out obviously nefarious activities. I feel the government should be taking measures to deal with these leaks, rather than creating new opportunities for even more leaks. Their solution can’t possibly be “surrender your data to us, we will take care of it.“

In January 2024, personal data, including the names of mobile users, their phone numbers, residential addresses, Aadhaar details, and names of family members of nearly 75 crore Indians, were reported to be put up for sale online. And in 2023, an American cybersecurity company said that personally identifiable information of 81.5 crore Indian citizens, including Aadhaar numbers and passport details, was being sold on the dark web for $80,000.

Just check here with your mail IDs once:

A lot of my password are already exposed online from one of my email

I was signing up for a random website yesterday and the website said the password can’t be used since it’s already exposed online. Lol

BTW where is this guy now?

Rumors are that he was warned/threatened by his government because he let success get to his head and started championing values that were contrary to what the powers that be insisted on. So now he keeps a low profile and avoids speaking his mind.

By rumors I mean assumptions I made after reading a few articles over the years.
