How can one install a non-deletable app in an existing smartphone OTA ?

Damn, the question is phrased like how do I install a virus on your mobile.

Edit : Looks like its for new devices. One more incentive to not buy a new phone.

https://indianexpress.com/article/business/centre-smartphone-makers-preinstall-cybersecurity-app-sanchar-saath-10395899/

“For devices already in the supply chain, manufacturers should push the app to phones via software updates, the ministry said in its order,”

All phones. New phones within 90 days; old ones, who knows. So don’t install the next software update I guess. :man_shrugging:

It is a difficult to believe what media peddles these days. I will wait for the official communication to come out.

If this is at all true, our elected* representatives should lead by example and also make their phones and all smartphome activity logs public.

I am like 99% sure Apple wouldn’t budge on this. Have they not been historically against any govt shenanigans like this or is my memory failing me? If even one manufacturer holds out, that will make it hard for govt to do this. They are not going to kick Apple out of India.

Those chindichors will be using phones bought in EU, mark my words.

well, i will just import from usa :brain:

I am not supporting this move but I am not surprised at all. This is just one of the first step for many ways to monitor citizens now.

Chinese, Americans and even Israelis to an extent is already monitoring you one way or the other.

as For Apple not budging ..it did budge in China and offered to comply with the chinese govt. laws.

India is a big market for Apple. We do need Apple for sure but Apple also needs India.

*budge, my brother, budge.

A Bulge will make for a different story!

On a serious note, I didn’t know about Apple giving in to China. Do they allow China to install monitoring apps?

Hahaha. Corrected. Thanks for pointing out.

Yes they did give in to Chinese govt. demands.

Only Google left China rest all decided to stay and make billions.

Another innovative way for mass surveillance.
Whoever in control, can track you easily !! :guide_dog:

Apple may have to accept this to evade - Apple files a case to stop a $38 billion antitrust penalty in India

Damn! So the timing of this was well-planned. Corner the biggest guy, get him to surrender and the rest will follow like sheep.

With this and the new Aadhar changes planned, we will be the most monitored and surveilled state on Earth, I think. We’re competing with China in areas even they did not see coming. :anxious_face_with_sweat:

Question is this: can those of us who care do something about this? We got 90 days.

Besides supporting https://internetfreedom.in/ (and hoping they’ll pick this up soon)?

Important question being, are we going to be safe in those hands ?
Our security/privacy almost everything.

Gone are the days when activism used to work. When these guys were able to fend off Zuckerberg’s “free basics” in 2016, both companies and governments were not as shameless. People have also become apathetic. Today a group of your own people will fight you on behalf of the government.

LoL. Apple were the first major phone maker after Motorola to bend the knee to the Chinese CCP citizen surveillance program. Why do you think they will act any differently here?
