Centre charts semiconductor roadmap, eyes 7 nanometers chips by 2030: Centre charts semiconductor roadmap, eyes 7 nanometers chips by 2030
Currently, India’s semiconductor journey is being led by the Tata group, which is establishing the country’s first wafer fabrication facility in Dholera with an investment of about Rs 91,000 crore.
Quite optimistic, that is some good progress indeed.
That’s real good news. Looking at how the trade and investment climate is in the Trump era, we have no alternative but to build our own capabilities. International collaboration is definitely needed but without our own contributions to the supply chain in a significant way, we may have perpetual dependence on other countries for the final product.
Trump to impose tariffs on semiconductor imports from firms not moving production to US: https://www.reuters.com/world/china/trump-impose-tariffs-semiconductor-imports-firms-not-moving-production-us-2025-09-05/
Yep, dtrump have his focus on everything foreign.
IMEC the company behind ASML
Check this video for how ASML works and how many companies have tied up with IMEC. Will give a little insight on chip industry!
Wow, such unknown entities having worldwide impact…
I wish for our country to have niche companies like this one, would be such a game changer if that ever happened
I would like to see dTrump for another term that will push India to become self reliant, we just need a little push else our gov will do nothing.
Not possible under US constitution which sets max 2 terms for any person as US president.
Russia had the same rule and putin worked around it.
No reason why he cant do same, esp considering how they seem to be acting today and what they did when they lost.
Russia is not US & Putin is not Trump. Whatever Trump did & doing is possible because it has a significant portion of public support & because it is justified under US constitution/allowed by current Supreme Court there by interpretating the laws & rules creatively but there is no ambiguity/creativity when it comes to max 2 terms allowed as US president. Modifying the constitution to remove this limitation is even more difficult than reversing the 2020 election result.
Can we use a magnifying glass to see what’s in the chip or something?
We could for lager nodes and also speaking of packaging it’s hard to remove that . But all you will see is the last metal layer. If u want to see an indepth image on how it looks I would suggest you to check an insta/youtube page called “evilmonkeyzdesignz“ he has found multiple easter-eggs within the chips. And its fun to watch.
Can you link the channel? Its not showing up for me
Not really. Nothing that will look exciting.
Wonder what some were trying to see using a magnifying glass
I don’t know exactly which video what you are talking about. But, you could possibly see the marking on packaging which shows the label of the IC, such as the processor or part number.
Moreover, the chips in this report are not really being manufactured in India right now. Only packaging is being done. The difference in packaging equipment and chip manufacturing equipment is of the order of 100x. You probably need 100s of crores to do packaging, but 10,000s of crores to do manufacturing on Silicon.
SCL (a govt. lab) is already making chips in India. These private companies are not. They are very far away from making a chip equivalent to even SCL right now. Calling this a made in India chip is the same (or even worse than) a made in India iphone.
Hope this fills the chip fab gap in near future
